"Natural Flavors"

There's something that's always bugged me about food ingredients--"natural flavors." Companies do not even have to label whether these are of animal or plant origin.
Maybe I don't understand this completely, but I should be able to know EXACTLY what's in my food.

I do make food at home most of the time, but it's nice when I occasionally see this to know what exactly the label "natural flavors" entails.

Could anyone else clarify this for me?
