About 50 people showed up at today's END THE FED rally in downtown Portland to protest against the Federal Reserve - our nation's unconstitutional private money monopoly. Alex Ansary was there with a megaphone to educate passersby. It was a lot of fun!
Today was the 45th anniversary of JFK's assassination. Many believe he was shot because he dared issue debt-free United States Notes.
There were END THE FED rallies all across America today, but check out this video of Cindy Sheehan in San Francisco. She talks about building a new movement of true progressives, true conservatives, greens and libertarians. Together, WE THE PEOPLE will abolish the Fed and bring ALL the troops home.

Torture Approvers Unlikely to Be Tried

It is entirely likely that the law will not be allowed to follow its course. Expediency it seems is to let those who approved the actions of torturers fade into the past without question or charge.
A country in which the law is applied selectively, in fear or favour of its wealthy and powerfull, breaches the fundamental principles of equality and justice for all under the law.
If the Government believe torture is not worthy of justice, if it believes lives lost in a war started by lies and deceit are not worthy of justice, then the people of the country governed live in a debased and corrupt society. The comments emerging from Democratic officials and Senators indicate America is just such a society.
For all the words of hope uttered by Mr Obama on his way to power justice it seems will remain an optional and negotiable privilege where once it was a right and a duty to uphold; perhaps for another eight years.
The Associated Press writes:
"Two Obama advisers said there's little—if any—chance that the incoming president's Justice Department will go after anyone involved in authorizing or carrying out interrogations that provoked worldwide outrage."
And when Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy was asked if Bush officials could face war crimes, he responded:
"In the United States, no. These things are not going to happen."
This is not entirely surprising, given that Democratic congress members Nancy Pelosi, Jane Harman and John D. Rockefeller were secretly briefed on torture many, many years ago, and yet did nothing to stop those unlawful programs. Indeed, they egged the torturers on (the linked Washington Post article says "no objections were raised. Instead, at least two lawmakers in the room asked the CIA to push harder").
Remember, those who authorize or cover up war crimes are themselves guilty of war crimes. The Democratic leadership thus has every incentive to cover up war crimes.
The fix is already in. Only massive pressure on the government can force war crimes trials.
