The U.S. premier showing of the new documentary film "Jerusalem: East
Side Story" will be followed by discussion and questions with the
director Mohammed Alatar, a Palestinian from Jerusalem. Alatar is a
filmmaker and long time human rights activist who was nominated for the
Martin Luther King Jr Award for Humanity in 2002 and for his campaign
for human rights. His other films include The Iron Wall (2006), awarded
"Official Selection" at the Al-Jazeera Television Production Festival.

The film is produced by Palestinians for Peace and Democracy and the
Palestinian Agricultural Relief Committees. In 1948, the western part
of Jerusalem fell under Israeli control; in 1967, the eastern part fell
under Israeli occupation. Since then, Israel has pursued a policy of
Judaizing the city, aiming to achieve "Jewish demographic superiority."
Part of this policy is to drive Palestinian Muslims and Christians out
of the city; denying their presence, history, and ties to the land.
The documentary takes you on a journey exposing Israel's policy to gain
supremacy and hegemony over the city and its inhabitants. It also
touches on the future of the city: Jerusalem is the key to peace;
without Jerusalem, there is no peace for anyone. The film includes
interviews with Palestinian and Israeli leaders, human rights activists
and political analysts.

Local sponsors of the film showing are Friends of Sabeel—North America,
Americans United for Palestinian Human Rights AUPHR, Portland Peaceful
Response Coalition PPRC, and American Jews for a Just Peace AJJP.

The lead sponsor Friends of Sabeel—North America works with the
Palestinian Christian community in the Holy Land to educate western
Christians about Palestinian history and heritage in the Middle East
and to bring awareness to illegal military occupation and its varieties
of injustices imposed on the indigenous Palestinian population. For
