The Iraqi Children's Campaign wants to extend it's heartfelt thanks to all supporters who made our efforts to secure a billboard in the Portland area successful. The billboard is up and running as of today and is located on TV highway just west of SW 209th Avenue near Intel headquarters in Aloha.
The "Iraqi Children's Campaign" is designed to create empathy for all innocent children affected by wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The goal of this campaign is to keep images of children affected by war in front of the public for the purpose of creating empathy and reminding all of us that innocent children continue to be in harm's way. These children are no different from our own children.
The campaign ran into a serious problem securing a billboard. Clear Channel, by far the largest billboard company in the area refused to do business with us stating that our message was "not right for this market at this time". A position that we view as politically driven censorship. Fortunately, the Icongroupe, a Seattle based company heard of our plight. This company stepped up and agreed to help recognizing that our campaign was not political, but rather a good faith effort to communicate our message of empathy for children within the community in which we live.
We now turn our attention to empowering other groups regionally and nationally toplace similar billboards reinforcing the need to understand that we as a nation must be responsible for the actions it takes: 'Because Every Child Matters'.
