Message From Tre Arrow

The latest communique from Tre Arrow, environmentalist locked up in the Federal prison system.
A Blessed Autumnal Equinox to you all!

I am being held here at the Federal Detention Center (FDC) while the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) designates me to a Federal Corrections Institution (FCI).

(I'm not sure what they are correcting...)

I am on a unit with about 180 guys. They only let half the unit out at a time. It may take another month or two until I am designated (that is, until an FCI is selected for the remainder of my sentence) and then still longer until I am actually moved. There is no guarantee I'll be going next door, to Sheridan FCI. I might be moved literally anywhere in the country.

I am in a cell with just one other person and we get along well. Some cells have three bunks and are the same size as the two man cells. It is nice to have just one cell mate, and therefore more room to move around this 11 x 14 cell we occupy 21 hours a day.

The BOP doesn't recognize or honor vegan diets, even for religious reasons, but I am managing to get enough to eat. I am continuing to work with vegan prisoner support networks to gently pressure the BOP to provide vegan meals to those who request them for religious, philosophical or health reasons. Most guys in here would love to have fruits and veggies available anyway.

My days are filled with yoga, kinesthetics, some writing and reading, and enjoying the sunny and warm weather. We get outside about 3-4 days a week. The fresh air brings morning fragrances blown through the farm fields. I can see the coastal range in the distance with sporadic bare patches of clear cuts. It still boggles my mind that people actually think they are benefiting anything except corporate profit by clear cutting forests!

When will our culture wake up and realize you can't eat money?

I thank you to all who sent me the used books, and I greatly appreciate your help and support!

I'll keep you all posted as things continue to develop. If more people did what they truly enjoyed all of the time, what kind of world would this be?

Namaste,

tre
