Scientology Cult Targets Amazon River Communities

A patronizing new press release from the Scientology cult boasts of its activities among Amazon basin tribal and mestizo peoples.

The cult's Vulture Ministers have appeared with a "bright yellow barge" in the Tres Fronteras region, a point where the borders of Brazil, Colombia and Peru come together. Absurdly claiming that "Life for those who live along the 4000 mile-long Amazon River continues much as it did centuries ago," the Vulture Ministers have targeted the towns of Leticia, "Columbia" (sic) and Santa Rosa, Peru. This area has long been part of the Christian, Jehovah's Witness, and Mormon missionary circuit, and now Scientology has appeared on the scene to dispense its kooky but destructive "ministry." Unlike legitimate religions, however, Scientology doesn't make efforts to heal the sick, feed the hungry, or house the homeless -- Scientology just shows up to teach people how to think like Scientologists.

Although Scientology teaches that people who have paid enough ($300,000+) to reach the higher "OT Levels" will have virtually superhuman powers of mind and body, history shows that there has never yet been a Nobel Prize-winning Scientologist or Olympic athlete. It is even highly unlikely that a Scientologist university professor could be found. There has never been a Scientologist who could fly or walk through walls. The truth is that thinking like a Scientologist is not at all a good thing. On the contrary, it is a bad thing.

The Vulture Ministers' "Extreme" Tour, as they call it, has "launched" into "one of the most remote regions on earth," as though it didn't matter that people had been living there for many thousands of years. The press release, one of dozens released by the cult each month, says that the Scientologists somehow got a few local people to attend their "communications" and "study tech" courses. based on the Scientology Handbook." Then the press release gushes about the "remarkable successes" these people have had with their "tech," even quoting a few excited and probably fictitious local citizens.

The question arises: Why did Scientology target this region? Perhaps it was because the Congreso Iberoamericana de Psicologia was held in Lima just last month in mid-July. Perhaps it was because Peru has encouraged psychological training in recent years, to cope with communities traumatized by natural disasters and other emergencies as well as poverty. Perhaps it was because the government of Peru recently passed a law articulating the psychological credentials one must hold in order to give psychological or even psycho-social counseling (thus putting Scientology, not recognized as a religion, out of business in Peru).

In any case, the Scientologists were quite delighted with themselves about the "help" they provided, and say they are currently "advancing down" the Amazon in their bright yellow barge.

About Scientology:

Scientology is much more than just a weird and wacky Hollywood fad, in which celebrities make fools of themselves and provide material for gossip magazines. Beyond its status as a "religion" in the USA, which it obtained through a secret deal with the Internal Revenue Service, and which give it extraordinary benefits not permitted to any other group, Scientology is also a multi-national criminal racket. The average person would be shocked to learn the amount of influence Scientology wields, mostly due to blackmailing and intimidation of government officials. Scientology's primary goals are to "clear the planet" and to "obliterate" the mental health profession, replacing it with Scientology. They are prepared to do this by any means necessary, and are adept in using their many front groups to portray the cult as concerned humanitarians. They are NOT concerned humanitarians. Their criminal organization needs to be shut down.

psychiatric refugee

the mental health profession is an extension of the police state. I don't like Scientologists either. However, the Nazi holocaust began as a psychiatric eugenics program. Soviet psychiatrists declared dissidents to be mentally ill. In the US, families sometimes cooperate to put dissident members in psychiatric institutions. It happened to me.

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) is a non-profit public benefit organization that investigates and exposes psychiatric violations of human rights. It works shoulder-to-shoulder with like-minded groups and individuals who share a common purpose to clean up the field of mental health. It shall continue to do so until abusive and coercive practices committed under the guise of mental health are eradicated and human rights and dignity are returned to all. CCHR's Board of Advisors, called Commissioners, include doctors, scientists, psychologists, lawyers, legislators, educators, business professionals, celebrities and civil and human rights representatives. CCHR was co-founded in 1969 by Professor Thomas Szasz, Professor of Psychiatry Emeritus, and the Church of Scientology, dedicated solely to eradicate mental health abuse.

doesent matter whats a front or not. mental health people are the police statye. drugs even for a short time ,can disable you p[ermanently.damage brain and body and can kill.they force and give out drugs like it was candy.deadly poisons! people should be aware, the mental health industry is like nazi germany. forcing drugs in non violent people.be warned, there is a war going on by the fascist powers of state.they have guns and rugs ready at their disposal.dont ignore there dangers!

CCHR is a $cientology front group 17.Aug.2008 22:50

The mad movement won't go near CCHR because it's a front for the Scientology cult - nobody doing anti-psychiatry work will ally with them and their claims that they "stand shoulder to shoulder" with other groups is false. If you want to organize against abuses in psychiatry, there are plenty of groups to work with that aren't cult shills...or hey, start your own.
