On Tuesday, June 3rd, those who directly profit from war will gather in Tacoma, WA, for the annual SpecOps West "Warfighter Symposium & Expo" defense industry trade show. Join us as we gather to oppose them!

SpecOps West is part of a larger week full of war profiteers and police meetings called "MilSecWest," which includes SpecOps West and the "Pacific Northwest National Security Forum" (see  http://www.pnnsf.org ).

According to the event's website (see  http://www.milsecwest.com/ ), SpecOps West features "Leading edge presentations by Military & Industry leaders [that] will include information leading to the development of solutions critical in today's operational enviroment [sic]."

Their website pronounces "4 Days - 3 Events -1 Place
100's of Opportunities!" Opportunities indeed - for those of us who oppose war and oppose those who would profit from it! Rarely does the Military Industrial Complex make itself so obvious. Rarely is a target so clear cut. Dozens of companies will be in attendance - all who directly profit from U.S. wars abroad and police repression at home.

Be there to give a grand unwelcome to these war profiteers! Protest, blockade, picket, disrupt, vigil - there are 100's of opportunities...

The Pacific NW National Security Forum opens bright and early at noon on Tuesday, June 3rd, at the Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center in downtown Tacoma (1500 Broadway, Tacoma, WA 98402).

In attendance will be Pentagon officials presenting on Africa Command, or AFRICOM. According to Horace Campbell, veteran Africa analyst and professor of political science and African American studies at Syracuse University, "under this AFRICOM, all agencies of the United States of America would be under the United States Department of Defense, so that whatever work is being done in Africa by the United States Agency for International Development, the United States Treasury, the United States Department of Agriculture, the United States Department of Commerce, all agencies, Peace Corps, university work, will come under the US military. In other words, this will be the new step for the militarization of the continent of Africa." (see  http://www.democracynow.org/2008/2/18/analyst_on_africa_visit_bush_pushes )

Then, the SpecOps West opening reception is occurring later that day, Tuesday, June 3rd, at 3pm, again at the Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center in downtown Tacoma. The conference then continues every day, beginning at 8:30am, through Thursday, June 5th. See the schedule at  http://www.defensetradeshows.com/SPECOPSWEST08_schedule.html

Those attending the conference are being encouraged to stay at the sleek Hotel Murano (see  http://www.hotelmuranotacoma.com/), located at 1320 Broadway Plaza, Tacoma, WA 98402. Perhaps someone should pay them a visit.

More information on SpecOps West, including lists of the dozens of companies that will be attending, and even floor plans (!) of the convention center, are available at their website,  http://www.defensetradeshows.com/SPECOPSWEST08_General_Info.html .

More information on specific actions is forthcoming.

Be careful, and good luck!
