The TIME TO ACT IS NOW!!
The TIME TO ACT IS NOW!!
This coming SUNDAY, JUNE 1st from 11am to 3 pm in Portland, we will hold a BIG Convergence Meeting (and potluck) for everyone who is involved in organizing.

We will all meet each other, brainstorm, plan, and dream of how to make this convergence an empowering, safe, fun, creative, and educational event. Also at this meeting, the location of the convergence will be announced!

Location of meeting: If the weather is nice we'll meet at 11am at Irvington Park (the big park on NE Fremont and 7th) at one of the picnic benches in the southwest corner of the park near 7th street.

If it's raining or clearly threatening rain, the plan is have the meeting a few blocks away at the nearby Wild Oats / Whole Foods corporate health food store at NE 14th and Fremont. Feel free to call us at 541-521-1832 to verify which location on Sunday.

Also, if you haven't already, please consider which main working group you are interested in plugging into:

Process (internal organizing, meeting planning, budget)

Content (workshops, entertainment, action planning)

On-Site (food coordination, sustainable
infrastructure, lay-out of event)

Outreach (outreach materials, pre-convergence events)

*Please feel free to invite friends to this, if they are seriously considering helping with organizing. If you are bringing friends, please try to give them a little background about the convergence.

global warming urgency and clathrates 30.May.2008 14:56

Theresa Mitchell

As it happens, I just broadcast a radio show on the political urgency of global warming issues, on KBOO Community Radio. The audio isn't online yet, but some of the script is available at theresaspresswatch.blogspot.com. Global warming comments follow more general political observations.

--The show dealt with methane clathrates, specifically, signs that a global eruption of methane could begin suddenly. This follows on a 2004 monograph which excited little comment at the time, and on a more recent issue of Nature ( http://www.nature.com/nature/index.html), which deals with the issue in depth.
