City Hall Protest to be Swept Today

Shortly after noon today, the Portland Police came through the City Hall homeless protest and reposted the illegal camping ordinance. The police also informed protesters that the camp was to be swept "sometime later today." This is in accordance with rumors that have been circulating since Saturday.

It's possible that the police sweep will take place during the meeting, when the leaders are inside and can't provide assistance. So, come down if you can, anytime today, as soon as possible. The sweep could occur at any time, and the more observers and non-homeless are around, the better. Come out and show solidarity, in the rain, with the folks camping out down at City Hall.
Update: City Hall Homeless Protest to be Cleared by Police Today

Shortly after noon today, the Portland Police came through the City Hall homeless protest and reposted the illegal camping ordinance. The police also informed protesters that the camp was to be swept "sometime later today." This is in accordance with rumors that have been circulating since Saturday.

The protesters were invited to meet with Mayor Tom Potter yesterday, in a letter from the mayor's office. The meeting is to be held at 3pm today and is not open to the general public. Five representatives from the camp and the community support organizations will be allowed to meet with Mayor Potter, to discuss (ostensibly) the sanitation and drug use situations. Copies of Mayor Potter's letter to the protesters are available at the City Hall protest camp.
