An online collective known as "anonymous" is protesting the Church of Scientology on Saturday, May 10th at 11am. The Church of Scientology Celebrity Center is located at 7th and Salmon, in SW Portland. We will be meeting at Pioneer Courthouse Square at 11am and then we will march to the Church.

The protests on May 10th are part of a worldwide protest event, and will be held in any city that has a Church of Scientology. Portland's turnout has been around 200 for the past 4 months and it is predicted that at least 200 will show on May 10th. The largest protests will be in Los Angeles and Clearwater, Florida, where the Church has strongholds; turnout is in the thousands in these cities.

The Church of Scientology is a secretive organization (a cult) that conducts all of its operations tax-free because of its religious status. This status also makes most people have a knee-jerk reaction to protesting the cult, because "people should be free to practice their own religion." However, there are many people trapped inside Scientology and cannot get out. Also, the confessionals of members are kept in files that are accessible to executives, and are brought out when the person wants to leave Scientology.

This month we will be protesting against the practice of "Fair Game", or the harrassment of reporters and ex-scientologists and their families. Last month we protested against "Disconnection", a practice where families and friends are completely separated to ensure that the church member stays in Scientology.

Local Information and Proof:

The director of the church is Gwen Mayfield-Barnard. She has been accused multiple times of stalking and harassing Scientologists that want to leave. We have also done the internet legwork here and present more information at:  link to wiki.pdxanon.info .

In Oregon, the Church has holdings at the Delphian School, a cult compound near Sheridan, Oregon, 45 minutes west of Salem. Through this school, they promote Applied Scholastics and Heron Books, youth education systems that are based in Scientology and used in public schools. We have done a lot of the internet legwork and more information is located at:  http://wiki.pdxanon.info/index.php?title=Delphian_School

A local management company, Hollander Consultants, serves as an entrance point for most into Scientology; veterinarians, optometrists, and chiropractors are sold on business courses based in Scientology, and up to 30 percent are brought into Scientology. We have also done internet research and present it here:  http://wiki.pdxanon.info/index.php?title=Hollander_Consultants .

Not sure why people would be interested in persecuting other people 08.May.2008 17:09

over their religious beliefs

Lots of people feel very connected with this. If it seems a little out there to me and you, that doesn't make it right to go protest people for their religious beliefs. I'm really, really skeptical about all the bashing of this "cult" going on in the corporate media. If this were happening somewhere else, we'd all be going, "Oh, how come that government is oppressing that church?" Like falon gong, or whatever that Chinese religion is.

Why not let other people decide for themselves what they want to believe in?
