Tri-met prohibits fun. Bus driver restricted.

A certain friendly bus driver in Portland has long brought up giggles and people together with his jokes over the speakers. He would randomly recite jokes and paragraphs to the passengers, who would start talking about it and certainly have something to remember and lighten up their day. Now, unfortunately, this is no longer allowed.
It seems that someone took offense by it and filed a complaint. Since I am not that person I can't possible know what was going through his/her head when they took away that freedom to build community. These days we are surrounded by so much coldness and automatized politeness, policies and laws are restricting our human spirit in so many ways, this incident is just one of the latest.
I would encourage anyone who cares about our freedom to care and interact with each other to go to www.tri-met.org and write them a comment about it. If one person's complaint can take it away, then in a well-functioning democracy many people's voices would have the power to bring it back. I believe we have to do something about this. Please help by letting your opinion be heard in this case and in other, talk the people around you, and make the bus a more fun place.

Who was the bus driver? And who can we contact to voice our opinion?

I don't remember his name, but he is a very special character because of what he used to do so tri-met will know who you're talking about. Just go to the place on their web site where you can contact them and leave a comment.

He did say his name was Steve and does drive the 15. I usually catch his bus about 6:45 just on the West side or Morrison Bridge going east. The last time I rode it he did mention that two people had complained and many others had written in to say nice things. I was on this bus last Tuesday or so, and we stopped around SE 10th and Morrison. He said we were running ahead and needed to sit a few minutes. Then he said something like:

I used to tell jokes to pas the time, but a couple of people wrote in and said it felt like they were trapped and I was yelling at them on a megaphone. My boss asked me to tell him a couple and he laughed. About ten of you wrote in saying you liked the jokes. A couple people always spoil for the rest of us.

I've been on this bus numerous times when he told jokes. It is usually the most crowded 15 bus I ride, and that is saying a lot for the 15. People would pile onto that bus until there was not an inch left. I once was definitely past the white line that you shouldn't cross to ride for a couple stops. He once mentioned that people had complained that he let too many people on this bus but they didn't get off to make it more comfortable the rest. It was highly uncomfortable and I could see people in bad moods b/c of it and therefore feeling annoyed by the jokes.

But...those people...well, they don't help make the world go round. It was always obvious that most of us were stressed and uncomfortable to be in such close quarters, but that many people enjoyed the guy's jokes. Plus, they did no harm, the next bus doesn't come for another 20 or so minutes and is probably just as packed--MORE 15 Buses Please--with many more annoying people and smells then this guy.

Basically, the people who complained are passive-aggressive aholes whose only enjoyment in life is making others feel shitty.

There is one driver who I call the 'Universal Sweetheart'. If you sit up front she'll joke with you, listen to you and gives great advice about almost anything. She told me a good place to look for a used car. Since she might get in trouble, I'll just keep my mouth shut, but I hope you get to ride her bus and see how joyful she is.

That's ridiculous but not impossible to believe.

I would like to see the actual CSI!

If anybody comes in contact with this driver have him send a copy of the CSI to:
 alyourpalster@gmail.com,

alot of us bus drivers would be interested in seeing this.
