Protest Foie Gras and the hypocrites and TEN-01!

Background:
When the new vegan restaurant, Nutshell, opened up in the up in the NE last year, people throughout Portland were thrilled to have a new option. That delight quickly turned to anger when people found out that the owners of Nutshell also owned TEN-01, a restaurant in Portland notoriously known for selling Foie Gras. Letters were written and calls were made to get them to drop this delicacy of despair and end the hypocrisy, but they refused. So only one choice was left... DEMO ON THEIR DOORSTEP!

About Foie Gras:
Foie Gras—French for fatty liver—is the grossly enlarged liver of a duck or goose. Medically known as hepatic lipidosis, foie gras is a disease marketed as a delicacy. Birds raised for this gourmet cruelty are force-fed enormous quantities of food through a long metal pipe three times a day. This process of deliberate and painful overfeeding continues for up to a month, by which time the birds' livers have swelled up to twelve times their healthy size. The process of forced feeding is so traumatic, and the confinement and conditions on foie gras farms so debilitating, that the pre-slaughter mortality rate for foie gras production is up to 20 times the average rate on other duck factory farms.

I am very happy to hear about this demonstration. We have also written and called the 10-01 restaurant as individuals regarding this ugly "food", but have not had any interest from them about taking this off of their menu. We have had our own boycott of the establishment and have encouraged friends to eat elsewhere. There is no reason on earth for "this food of despair". We will resume our own protests once again in solidarity.
