Today in the Mark Hatfield Federal Courthouse on S.W. 3rd, Judge Michael Mosman is hearing arguments regarding the fate of the sea lions. The question is whether or not killing can begin before there is a summary judgment on the merits of the case. Judge Mosman said that he will rule from the bench. It does not look good for the sea lions at this point. Those speaking for the government and those wanting to shoot sea lions are saying that any emotional harm the killing might bring to individuals fighting to save their lives "brings 'irreparable harm' to a tiny level." At this point, I don't even know what to say. Just keep positive thoughts for the sea lions because their future does not look bright.

Here is another direct quote from Mosman: "Sea lions don't vote. Fishermen do."
He just ruled that, although the Humane Society et al would probably have won summary judgement, he nevertheless denied an injunction against killing sea lions while the case is being decided because the harm suffered by the people who have come to know and love the sea lions is "not sufficient" and is "not a form of harm recognized by the law."
The killing of sea lions is set to begin immediately. Marksman on the river bank are to be allowed to begin shooting sea lions in the water. They do not want witnesses. They plan to close the river beneath the dam while they fill the water with blood. Blood that will be on the hands of Judge Michael Mosman.
