Blackwater in my mouth

"Dental schools are trying to stay operational [but] the security and social conditions have forced many students to quit," he said. "The needs are less financial, but more organisational."
What do I find about this to be sad?
The way that our Blackwater's still doing bad
Security's the reason this article gives
For not enough medical help for the kids
And who is Security in this ancient place?
Why, Blackwater it is, guns in their face
How can we just let this go on ever more?

Education boon for Iraq's dentists.

This month's AEEDC will play host to a three-day educational meeting for Iraqi dentists, held alongside the event's main congress track.

The meeting, which is thought to be the GCC's first continuing education event for Iraq's dentists since the US-led invasion in 2003, will go some way to addressing the severe disruption in education faced by the profession, said organiser Dr Mohammed Abedin.

"Dental schools are trying to stay operational [but] the security and social conditions have forced many students to quit," he said. "The needs are less financial, but more organisational."

The meeting was organised at the request of the Iraqi Medical Association (IMA), and will include a two-day hands on course in implantology, and a one-day lecture focusing on general surgery.

Abedin, who is the FDI's regional programme manager, said the IMA was conscious of the need for better ongoing education for its members, and struggled to supply dentists with local opportunities. "I can only say that they are very keen to update and improve, but it does not come easy for them.

They face the same challenges as everyone else faces; security, the supply of equipment and materials, but as medical personnel, their responsibility is much greater."
