24 - HOUR PEACE VIGIL (Fri - Sat) 4:00PM in Sandy Ore

To mark the one year anniversary of their weekly peace vigil the Oregon Trail Democrats, (Sandy Ore) along with other local peace and justice advocates, will be holding a
"24 Hour Peace Vigil"
on the corner of 362nd Ave and HWY 26 in Sandy, PM Friday,
February 1st until PM Saturday, February 2nd, 2008.
I am going to this event to help support the 24 hour vigil in the name of PEACE
I think this idea of a 24 hour vigil is inspiring and a good way to help bring the concept more into the community's eyes, as well as putting a serious touch to it by making it last one full day

I would like to suggest if any Indy readers want to drop in, the Solidarity would be appreciated.
I live in NE Port and will be protesting with these peacemakers for as long as I can in that 24 hours time span
I might try to do all 24
Anyway I am encouraging and supporting them and .....and will be doing some filming as well
I am also encouraging you all to come on out to Sandy Ore and stand for Peace with us anytime during that 24 hour period

Be Active ....Resist!

From their website I found this:  http://oregontraildemocrats.org/Home.shtml

For safety considerations, we are attempting to schedule 5 people (minimum) to be at the site at all times. That way, 2 people at a time could leave for short periods (breaks, etc.) and never leave less than 3 people there alone. This is particularly important during the overnight hours.

Although we are primarily trying to mobilize locals for this event, additional help from friends and family would be more than welcome. If you're interested in standing with us, we currently have openings in our schedule for every hour of the day and night.
We also would like to get as many participants as possible there for a
Peace Surge during the last hour of the vigil (3 to 4 Saturday afternoon), as we attempt to break our own vigil attendance record.

Although we anticipate having a small shelter and some portable heaters on site, participants should come dressed appropriately for spending time outdoors in harsh winter weather conditions. Heavy coats, gloves, scarves, layered clothing, warm hats and warm footwear are recommended. Accessible rain gear is also advised. While of course people are free to express themselves, for the safety of participants, we encourage messages on signs and people's personal behavior be more on the somber and respectful side, rather than aggressive and provocative.

Fred Meyer's parking lot, unless other parking arrangements are made in advance. The site can also be accessed via the Sandy Transit System (SAM) during the day and some evening hours.

Walk-ins will of course be welcomed, but the more people we can schedule ahead of time, the better off we will be. If this is something you might be interested in doing, please contact us as soon as possible.

24 hour UPDATE (kinda) 03.Feb.2008 13:05

Joe Anybody iam@joe-anybody.com

Well it looked like a successful Peace Vigil to me!
All night long and for (in the time I was there in rained or snowed 24/7)
But the wind was the chiller
Shifts (of activists) (3 - 4 during the night/early morning) came and went and through the 21 hours that I was there

Lots of cars honking
One car on Friday night, pulled over and gave us a handful of Hershey kisses.

One care pulled over and said they heard about this on KBOO and then stopped in for a little while

Heck my son (teenager0 and another friend stooped in ..in the real early morning for about an hour holding signs, ... seen a few teenaged kids being political active and out making a stand these past few hours
People in this group all were very friendly and I enjoyed talking and networking with all my brothers and my sister who are just down the road a little from me, working for change that we know ... that we need!

Did I say it was cold ... wow
We could go in the awning / a couple heater were there are to warm up by ...
and that did work but I also would go to me car to for 20 mins to get out of the wind... about every hour...
And went to a fast food place right across the street.. to get coffee and some "camera battery recharging" while I escaped the Mt Hood chill

Let me write a little more after I sleep (actually I wrote this last night and was to tired to send it) but everything still applies the only change is I slept 12 hours!
I have been up for over 24 hours ... .. but, heck ... It was worth it !!!!!
Not only did I have a great time
We helped the MESSAGE out to 1,000 and 1,000 of cars/people

I will relay some more of what I seen at the vigil... and some of my video by late Sunday right here on this post on IMC
It was successful and fun... those folks who all participated are dedicate and "hard-core!" Peace Activist it was grueling conditions on the base of the mountain
I did upload on video on Sat early norning the Indy post to that short video is here
