Oregon Governor Falls to Anti-Immigrant Hysteria

At what gain do Democrats like Governor Kulongoski get from cutting the throats of those that have come to this country to make a better life for their families while risking all to work for little wages?

I was not really surprised to read this weekend that Democrat Governor Kulongoski gave in to the anti-immigrant hysteria that is going on around the nation. First New York Governor Spitzer caved to what many believe is a call from Bill Clinton telling him to back off on supporting licenses for immigrants. It wasn't long after that Senator Clinton backpedaled during a debate in her support for undocumented immigrant licenses.

Then just this Friday, Governor Kulongoski cowardly back steps after telling the press he supported licenses for immigrants. This comes in a long line of Democrats throwing immigrants under the bus while pledging undying support for them when it is convenient. Seems when it comes to politics over principle, they are no different than their Republican rivals.

At what gain do Democrats like Mr. Kulongoski get from cutting the throats of those that have come to this country to make a better life for their families while risking all to work for little wages? At what gain do they get by turning their backs on those who come to the U.S. to flee political persecution, violence and poverty in their homelands. It seems to me that these immigrants need help and understanding--not condemnation, hatred and labels that equate them to terrorists and criminals. As a person of faith, I can't condone or agree with any such act that dehumanizes individuals in the nature.

Governor Kulongoski and many Democrats Oregon Legislature and around the nation are doing a real disservice to human beings with their acts of cowardice, hypocrisy and political opportunism. The say they are for the "little guy", support immigrants and minorities, are against the war, support healthcare for all and urge reform only when it suits them for political gains and/or to win elections. However, when it comes down to doing what is right and just, it sure seems they are the first to jump ship.
