As the spin begins, it is interesting to look at what GAO writes. Signficantly, they report that it is difficult to make any assessment about whether violence has decreased. "Other measures, such as the number of enemy-initiated attacks, show that ivolence has remaind high through July 2007." p. 13
They also have an useful comparison between the Administration's July assessment report and their own. No surprise that the Administration's report is rosy. p. 12
Send copies to your US Representatives, especially those of you in Brian Baird's district. Brian drank the koolaid during his Iraq visit and is convinced that there was significant progress and that the US troops should remain in Iraq--even though, he says from the other side of his mouth, that this is the worst foreign policy disaster.
