On a lovely sunny night I got to Baird's Town Hall in Vancouver by 6 pm for a 7 pm. event. I didn't stand alone very long. By 6:30 when Baird showed up at least 20-30 of us were out to de-greet him with signs, and petition. Baird was accompanied, I think, by several people. He walked swiftly through us to the door, not stopping to shake hands and talk like he did last year. I yelled to him, "Hey Bush-Dog Baird, you've got blood on your hands" and "What lobbyist paid you off?" A camera man was behind me.
Tons of my peace friends were there from Vancouver for Peace, and elsewhere. Portland people coming were Hershel from PPRC, Nancy Newell from Civil Resist Portland, and a Pissed-Off Raging Granny that has done lots of events at the NE Broadway Recruiting Center and jumping in front of a Rose Festival tank on parade. I had my impeach Bush and Cheney along and got about 38 signatures for Baird. It's sure likely he'll sign HR 333. Isn't it?
Well, people were still pouring in to FVHS at 7:10 pm. I wasn't planning to listen to Baird as it would make my stomach curl. But we heard the auditorium was full and people were shut out. So Angie and I went into the lobby, and sure enough, about 30-40 people were standing around inside and about 4 security guards or cops were standing near the door.
I hope to hell people told Baird where to go.
I left about 7:30-7:45. Baird must resign with blood on his hands. gk.
