The Pentagon Papers

Democracy Now! host Amy Goodman moderated a panel at the UU General Assembly here in Portland last week with Dan Ellsberg, Senator Mike Gravel and Former UUA President Bob West on the role of Beacon Press in publishing the Pentagon Papers.
This was a riveting presentation about the Pentagon papers and the role these three leaders played in exposing the government's lies. I highly recommend a view/listen. Ellsberg took great risks to release them. Gravel, a freshman Senator at the time, took great risks to get them into the public record while The Beacon Press sufferred over 2 years of government abuse for publishing them.

I was there and it was indeed about the best presentation. I didn't understand what Gravel was filibustering. More "leaks" are needed, they said, but more than that, we need congress people and others to take major RISKS to get information out. It takes courage. Most, as with the Pentagon Papers, knew, but stayed silent.

Peace

As somebody who's read the Pentagon Papers cover to cover before this whole war started, I highly recommend it, BECAUSE you will see that the Iraq War is basically following the same blueprint. It's not by accident.
