"The Man You Had in Mind," documentary screens June 13, 2007 at Historic Hollywood Theatre

The Man You Had in Mind is a feature documentary about five male couples living in the Portland/ Vancouver metro area. The film features the music of the popular gay singer/songwriter Eric Himan. The screening, part of Pride Week, is sponsored by Film Action Oregon and The Hollywood Theatre Project and benefits Elder Resource Alliance (ERA), a program of Friendly House Inc. ERA is the only program in the Portland Metropolitan area that provides advocacy and services for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning and intersexed senior citizens.
You fall head over heels in love, have lots of sex, make a commitment, move in together, start sharing your dreams and goals, buy a house, maybe raise a child or two, care for each other when times are tough and eventually grow old together. It's the American dream and what most of us strive for - to share our lives with someone special. It is one of the most natural things in the world. Five Oregon male couples following that American dream are the subject of this documentary screening. We live in a time when gay relationships are a divisive issue. Consequently, the notion that a gay couple could establish a stable and loving relationship worthy of equal civil recognition is sometimes threatening, sparking intense emotional debate. Although some of the couples are married, the film's focus is not on marriage, but on the relationships themselves.

Falling in love is a universal human experience, regardless of one's sexual orientation. Gay men form stable relationships for the same reasons that heterosexual couples do, but the ties that bind these couples are in some ways different. We learn what forces bring them together, the journeys they face, and the political atmosphere in which they survive.

Director James Tuchschmidt and film subjects will be in attendance.
In addition to the film screening, we will celebrate the 54th anniversary of subjects Eugene and Eric with gourmet desserts and sparkling beverages!
