Leland Lehrman's 2008 Senate Race Challenged by Establishment, Needs Your Support to Succeed

Back in 2004, I sat anxiously at my desk job watching America and the world go to hell. I was a long way from being as active and effective as I could be on behalf of Mother Earth. I couldn't bear the feeling of watching the destruction of my home and people without doing something, so I quit my job and went into two of the most urgently needed occupations in today's world: political activism and media.

When the Democrats could field no major candidate to challenge Pete Domenici in 2008 I stepped into the race in order to provide a voice for the people in my community and a real debate on the issues. Now I am as effective as I can be, I am stretched to the limit and out on the limb, but there is only so much one person can do alone.

I recently reached that limit, the danger zone, where my effectiveness has been noticed and counterattacked. As my friend Bill Althouse says, "they always let you know when you've poked the monkey." My campaign has come under attack by forces eager to keep 9/11 Truth off the radar in the upcoming election season. These attacks made it to the desks of very powerful people in the "Establishment" who contacted me and in no uncertain terms tried to convince me of the error of my ways, of the danger to my safety and that of my family, and of the absurdity and indefensibility of key issues such as impeachment and 9/11 Truth.

Despite the testimony of hundreds of credible military, intelligence, political and scientific professionals that the official story of 9/11 is more than questionable, some Americans still believe that people who question the government's story are fringe. Or perhaps they just desperately hope so.

The concerted effort to derail my candidacy through intimidation, emotional blackmail and ridicule forced me to undergo deep self-analysis and to question my capabilities and value as a candidate. I have also had to evaluate the risks I was willing to take. From the controversy of the last two weeks, during which the conflict raged, I have emerged recommitted as a candidate, but also with the full knowledge that I cannot be effective alone. I need your help, as activists, friends, advisers and supporters. We will need to move forward together or we will be vulnerable. "United We Stand..."

It was really unwise of the establishment to counterattack so viciously. Because it made it completely obvious that my course is the right one and that our effectiveness is real. However, it has also made it very obvious to me that the only way we are going to be able to win is to reach out from the heart to everyone, not just in small groups of friends or supporters, but en masse. We must have the courage to tell the world what we are willing to do, and let the world choose it if it so desires.

I would also be pleased to help anyone interested in running for office. My candidacy is not just an expression of my own deeply felt civic responsibility and desire to implement loving change. Hopefully it will be a symbol of the right of all human beings to bring forth their vision without compromising their essence to the crass advertising mentality of modern politics.

Federal election law does not require me to file candidacy until I have raised or spent $5000. I have created a separate bank account for the purpose of record keeping and will now create my exploratory committee. If you are interested in being on this committee, please let me know. If you can help financially, please do so. Send a check made payable to Lehrman for Senate to 163 Old Lamy Trail, Lamy, NM 87540. Please also support my candidacy by advertising in the Sun News, the newspaper I edit, or in this newsletter. Advertising support is what keeps the loving vision and direction alive in print and on your screen. You can use the link at right to send support in $10 increments or send money via paypal to  leland@33o.com .

Several excellent new platform positions have come to light in the course of recent discussions with experts locally and nationwide. In a post-9/11 truth world, where the guilty parties within the US and world government have been brought to justice and the representatives of the people actually do their jobs, a discussion of tax policy will be important. A national sales tax on securities transactions, perhaps with sensible tariffs on foreign investors, could generate an enormous amount of revenue for the American people and enable a repeal of income taxes on those earning less than $150,000 per year. Small businesses also deserve tax relief, in contrast with large corporations and banks. Why should citizens have to pay sales taxes for our children's shoes when bankers and stockbrokers pay no tax whatsoever as they cash in and out of Wall Street? Another recommended tax designed to produce revenue without punishing the vulnerable in society would be a tax on derivative holdings. Derivatives are specialized investment securities that give bankers and investors a hugely powerful method for speculating on the global economy. Banks typically hold "nominal values" in the trillions of dollars in derivatives. A 1% tax on derivative holdings would generate hundreds of billions more revenue for America.

Although many of my colleagues have embraced the Tax Freedom movement, advocating that the Income Tax was not ratified by the States or that the tax on labor is unconstitutional, I have come to understand that there are dangers associated with this line of thinking. According to Webster Tarpley, the author of the Unauthorized Biography of George Bush, the income tax was promoted by the early 20th century populists who were trying to figure out how to make the robber barons of the time, such as Rockefeller and Carnegie, pay their fare share for access to the infrastructure of American society. Mr. Tarpley went on to explain that the Rockefellers have been promoting the repeal of the income tax through covert "tax freedom" groups for years. We need to be alert and aware of the constant presence of those seeking to manipulate the public's good intentions for their own purposes.

Although the proportional or progressive income tax is attacked by some since it was one of the specific recommendations of the banker-controlled Communist International, it does roughly correspond to tribal notions of responsibility and rights, which may be more biologically and naturally attuned than those born of arbitrary civilized construction. As I understand it, based on the books of Lakota Medicine Men Lame Deer and Black Elk, as well as the Constitution of the Iroquois, tribal societies assumed that those with greater capabilities would provide for the general welfare in proportion with those abilities. Indeed it was a great honor to be chosen to farm or hunt for those who could not do so themselves. The honor that accompanied such a responsibility was the designation of Chief or Medicine Man. How can we establish such an honor system in our own society?

There is a great deal of understandable resentment in America today by those who feel they are carrying a larger burden than they can for the benefit of those who are either incapable or unwilling to contribute to the general welfare in ways that can be commonly appreciated. However, most of this anxiety and anger is misplaced, for there is more than enough abundance in God's world to adequately feed, clothe, house and provide for the general welfare of all people. Those who accuse the poor, infirm, or otherwise unproductive in strict financial terms of creating unwarranted burdens on society are looking in exactly the opposite direction from the true culprits: the oligarchs in charge of the pyramidal system which sucks wealth into the hands of the few at the expense of humanity and nature. The elitists at the top of the pyramid are creating a far greater unwarranted burden - and require a far more courageous confrontation from patriots and citizens - than the helpless or hopeless. Once we have successfully removed the parasite from our guts, perhaps we will once more feel motivated by that generous spirit that once so well-characterized Americans.

The recent World Peace Conference in Santa Fe provided me with an opportunity to discuss the problem of establishment counterattack and helped me to understand the issues more holistically. My great friend and colleague Sadaf Cameron of Concerned Citizens for Nuclear Safety made the wise comment that as a Senator, the establishment would be a member of my constituency and I would have to represent their interests in a balanced way.

I immediately understood that the purpose of my candidacy is not to destroy the establishment, but to pry its fingers off the steering wheel of government before it takes us off the cliff. Therapy, not harsh punishment, is the appropriate remedy for many of those currently abusing America and the world. Personal insecurity and fears of inadequacy breeds the violence we see today justified as the defense of "security interests."

I was enormously gratified to be received so seriously as a candidate for Senate by members of the Democratic Party at the Las Cruces Convention last month, the media and my friends and neighbors. Good ideas have been streaming in from all corners since I made the announcement, and I intend to continue to incorporate the best suggestions into the platform. I am planning a fundraiser party for sometime in June. I will announce the details when they are ready.

Again, if you can help in any way, from ideas to finance to the fundraiser, please do so.
