Public Meeting to Discuss Hwy 99 Congestion: Zoning Changes Could Block Tigard Wal-Mart

Tigard Triangle's traffic congestion only stands to worsen. One Wal-Mart alone will add 8,000 car trips per day. Build out to current zoning capacity would draw approximately 100,000 new cars to local roads. A Public Open House on April 19 provides opportunity to advocate changes to Tigard's development rules. Tigard First proposes a limit on big-box stores to curb super-traffic.

The City of Tigard is currently participating in the preparation of a traffic improvement plan for Highway 99W through the City from its intersection with Durham Road at the south City Limits to the I-5 interchange at the north end of the City. The Plan will identify projects and potential land use changes both aimed at alleviating traffic congestion and improving traffic circulation within the highway corridor through Tigard.

Open House
The next open house meeting will seek public input on the alternatives developed during Task 4. It is scheduled for 6:30 PM Thursday, April 19, 2007 at City Hall.

Those attending will be requested to comment on which alternatives should be included in the final plan. The comments will be used as part of Task 5-Alternatives Evaluation. The third and final open house meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 7, 2007 at City Hall.
