How did Blackwater rise so high, so fast? The "war on terrorism" got the ball rolling for the firm, but one suspects that political connections played a big part as well. Erik Prince, Blackwater's founder, is a former SEAL who is deeply involved in Republican Party politics. Since 1998, he has funneled roughly $200,000 to GOP committees and candidates, including President Bush. In 2004, Blackwater retained the Alexander Strategy Group, the PR and lobbying firm that closed down earlier this year due to its embarrassing ties to Jack Abramoff and Tom DeLay. (Paul Behrends, a former national security adviser to Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, handled the account for Alexander. After the firm shut down, Behrends moved on to a firm called C&M Capitolink, and took the Blackwater account with him.)

Democracy Now! reporters describe conversations with Blackwater™ corporate/government (i.e. fascist) armed squads rotated from US occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq--getting a share of the $10B + $50B KBR/Halliburton fund that the regime has hijacked from public education and health needs. They're getting only $350/day + per diem (add another couple hundred)--as if they are having to cover motel, restaurant and auto rental expenses while performing on their contracts in the flooded city.

What Snazmo is refering to here is the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, wherein, indeed, use of federal troops for domestic law enforcement is prohibited (Except when authorized by the Constitution(?) or Congress). Also see the Insuurction Act. These have both alredy been sidestepped or invalidated altogether. Remember, however, that origionally the Posse comitatus (power of the County) was equivalent to the civilian militia. The posse. The power of the Sheriff (or Governor, I suppose) to deputize "any able-bodied male over the age of fifteen".
It is said to be obsolete yet it has never been repealed. This could spell trouble as well, with blackwater goons getting pinned, but I'll bet there are some very pissed-off local sheriffs in the south right now who don't appreciate what has happened to their communities, their authority and their lives. These sentiments will surely only grow in the days to come. "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." Free State being a very important phrase.

well, they are definitely present in NOLA - http://www.blackwaterusa.com/ - what their role is may be up for debate - but regardless, I'm very uncomfortable with them playing any part in this effort, humanitarian or not. It's bad enough that they have contracts with our government to do what they do in Iraq and Afghanistan - now we're hiring 'em out for domestic issues? What's next? They'll work under contract to "secure" potential terror targets - standing on the street corner at the next Super Bowl - armed and ready with no rules of engagement, no threat of consequence for their actions, making $400 a day. Turning the US into a potential police state guarded by contracted mercenaries is not my idea of a "war on terror."

and Someone answered: They would be a Jewish lobby if they were lobbying for things like kosher food in public schools, Holocaust monuments, or laws that prohibit discrimination against jews (or anyone) in housing. To my knowledge AIPAC does none of these things. They lobby exclusively for the interests of Israel as perceived by what may actually be a minority segment of the American Jewish community. It is an Israel lobby not a "Jewish" lobby.

On its web site, AIPAC bragged that 5,000 activists would show up for the event, which generally draw "half of the Senate and a third of the House" members. I'm sure that this was a conscious understatement. If it really wanted to do it, AIPAC could demand that the whole bloody U.S. Congress make an appearance. Only a handful of members would dare to decline. The demonstrators, numbering over one hundred, led by the DC Antiwar Network, (DAWN) and activists from seven other groups, lined up outside of the Center, between Mt. Vernon Place and 7th and 9th Sts. NW. They rallied for two hours from 6 PM to 8 PM. (1)
Malachy Kilbride is one of DAWN's leaders. He said: "AIPAC has too much influence over the U.S. Congress. They are supporting the illegal occupation of Palestine and the Apartheid regime of Israel...What the Israelis are doing there is abhorrent to most Americans...We are protesting...the dehumanizing conditions that the Palestinians have to live in, in places like the Gaza Strip, where people are living in a prison." Activists David Kirshbaum believes: "AIPAC has disproportionate, inappropriate power over the U.S. Government..It's like they are buying democracy." Eric Anderson said: "AIPAC is just one face of occupation, repression and ethnic cleansing...It seems to get a red carpet treatment from our government...Our representatives (citing Sen. Barbara Mikulski ☼ ☼ of MD) seem to serve AIPAC more then they serve the voters."
According to the AIPAC's web site, expected Congressional heavy hitters slated for the event were: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA); Majority Senate Leader, Harry Reid (D-NEV); GOP Senate honcho, Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and House GOP czar, John Boehner (R-OH). Naturally, the Warmonger-in-Chief, V.P. Dick Cheney, will make an appearance. I suspect that the wily old fox has an "I Love Israel" speech embedded in his heart defibrillator. Cheney might even let the crowd know, with a blink and nod, not to worry about a Presidential pardon for his ex-gofer, that scheming Neocon and now convicted felon, "Scooter" Libby. (2)
Demonstrator Alison Weir said: "We give Israel $8 million per day...[The American taxpayers] would be horrified to even see what is done {with that money}...in the West Bank and Gaza." Mark Braverman told me: "As an American Jew, I'm here to protest AIPAC's control of Congress. It is a very self-destructive course for America to be supporting Israel unconditionally." Louis Wolf said: "I believe that AIPAC has really taken over Washington...the political process." Carol Moore said: "Israel's illegal occupation of Palestine has to end and AIPAC is the group that makes it happen." Doug Eyde emphasized: "I'm here to protest AIPAC...and their role in creating wars...All the major candidates serve Israel." Jean Acton, who was at Jenin, in the Occupied West Bank, on April 3, 2002, after it was assaulted by the Israeli Occupation Forces, said: "From where we stood, you could smell the dead bodies...Israel really wants the Palestinians to leave their own country."
For me, AIPAC's annual convention is about humiliation. Other Special Interests, like "Big Oil and the "Gun Lobby," wouldn't think of doing anything in this gaudy kind of way. The Zionists, on the other hand, enjoy publicly dragging the Christian politicians here, Republicans and Democrats alike, and making them crawl, like trained puppies. It's kind of insidious--the bowing down--the dubious confessions of fealty to the raving Likudnuts. I'm outraged by this silly AIPAC spectacle, where a clique, advocating for a foreign entity gets to show off its power over our elected representatives. It also deeply offends the "Spirit of '76."
Ms. Laci Barrow is an activist with the Coalition for Justice and Accountability (CJA). She said: "I'm here tonight to show solidarity with the other protesters against AIPAC's hijacking of our Congress." The Rev. Philip Wheaton is an Episcopal priest from DC. He said: "Bishop Desmond Tutu went to Israel recently and he said that Apartheid in Israel was 'worse' then it ever was in South Africa...This is really a horrible situation...I think the tail (Israel) is wagging the dog (the U.S.)."
What I'm sure won't be discussed at this Pro-Israel love feast was the fate of the 34 U.S. servicemen, who were maliciously slaughtered on the USS Liberty by the Israelis on July 8, 1967; the late Rachel Corrie, a peace and justice activist, who was killed by a 9 ton Israeli bulldozer, at Rafah, on March 16, 2003; Jonathan Pollard, a Zionist fink, who betrayed our most valuable military secrets to Israel; the serial lies of Libby, and how he and other Neocons, like Douglas Feith, Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz, helped to push the U.S. into the illegal and immoral Iraqi War, and now want the U.S.--Perle in particular--to attack Iran and the bizarre case of those "Five Dancing Israelis" on 9/11 (3). And, don't hold your breath waiting for a conscience-stricken Zionist Cartel to pay back to the American taxpayers, with interest, the $140 billion-plus, it has extracted from our national treasury since 1967. Trust me! None of the above issues will be on AIPAC's Israel-First agenda. (4)
Meanwhile, the year 2006 was another hell on earth for the Palestinians trapped in Occupied Gaza and the West Bank. (5) You wouldn't know it, however, by asking Israel's hawkish Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert. He pompously barked: "Nobody dies from being uncomfortable." This is the same Far Right Extremist who had no scruples about dropping over one million cluster bombs on Lebanon, in the summer of last year. Both Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have charged Israel with "War Crimes" as a result of its outrageous conduct in Gaza and Lebanon. (6) In addition, a gutsy Professor, William Fletcher, who praised ex-President Jimmy Carter's book, "Palestine Peace Not Apartheid," warned: "Israel is a rabid state," which is "capable of a maniacal act, like "unleashing a nuclear weapon." (7) On top of all that, in a recent raid on the town of Nablus, the Israeli Occupation Forces were accused of using a Palestinian youth as a "human shield." (8)
Keep in mind, that Zionist Israel, via its powerful Lobby, sucks three to four billions of dollars in aid (freebees) out of the treasury each year, thanks to a mostly shameless and cowardly U.S. Congress. (9) According to "Mother Jones" magazine, (Nov/Dec, 2006 issue), we also now know the names of some of the U.S. arms manufactures, who have been making hundreds of millions of dollars in profits by selling WMD to the Israelis. They are: Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, United Technologies, Boeing, Textron and General Dynamics. Also, the study by Professors Stephen M. Walt and John J. Mearsheimer detailed the "harmful effects" the Israel Lobby has had on our "national interest." (10)

Israel must stay the hell out of U.S. debate on Iraq

Ehud Olmert suffers from a learning disability found at times among people who know themselves to be brilliant:
They fail to learn the first thing.
Take the debate within the United States over the war in Iraq.
The first thing for an Israeli prime minister to know about the debate is this: Stay the hell out of it.
The second thing might well be: If you're thinking about addressing the American Jewish community on an issue of intense sensitivity, take a long second look before you say the first thing that comes to mind.
But Olmert, being Olmert, couldn't resist. And as a chaser, he chose the worst possible venue, the closely scrutinized national convention of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) pro-Israel lobby, to declare that an early U.S. military withdrawal from Iraq would destabilize the entire Middle East.
"Those who are concerned for Israel's security, for the security of the Gulf States and for the stability of the entire Middle east should recognize the need for American success in Iraq and responsible exit," Olmert announced, via video link.
"Any outcome that will not help America's strength and would, in the eyes of the people in the region, undercut America's ability to deal effectively with the threat posed by the Iranian regime will be very negative," he added.
Perhaps the first thing that Olmert should have considered was this: A recent Gallup poll showed that Jewish Americans are the most strongly opposed to the war of all U.S. religious groups.
In fact, opinion polls have shown that a majority of Jews has opposed the war since 2003. Even Jewish Republicans, who support Bush on other issues have shown themselves opposed to the Iraq campaign.
The second thing for Olmert to have considered is the extent to which Jewish neo-cons and Israel have been blamed for the decision to enter the war.
So, not one to quit when he's behind, Olmert trudged on. Only U.S. President George W. Bush and the United States can effectively confront Iran's attempt to boost its nuclear capacity, Olmert announced, his message served with a soupcon of understated Zionist-spiced emotional blackmail.
"All of you who are concerned about the security and the future of the state of Israel understand the importance of strong American leadership addressing the Iranian threat, and I'm sure that you will not hamper or restrain that strong leadership unnecessarily," he said.
When Ariel Sharon was in power, he once said that the prime minister of Israel had a responsibility to view his actions as if he were a prime minister for the Jewish people wherever they are.
Olmert would be well advised to heed his stricken mentor's words.
For once in his life, Olmert should consider thinking twice.

1. As President, George W. Bush will escalate U.S. militarism and aggression. The "Surge" to "win" in Iraq is a palpable fraud intended to provide the opening for further and permanent U.S. military occupation intended to reach Iran and Syria and establish U.S. domination of the region. The new "surge" General, David Petraeus, acknowledged in his first press conference on returning to Iraq in February 2007, that, "Any student of history recognizes that there is no military solution to a problem like that in Iraq" while acknowledging that with the U.S. "Surge", the Iraqi "insurgents" where stepping up their attacks. The U.S. are the real insurgents. Now we see hundreds of Pilgrims killed on their way to Holy Karbala, families destroyed in Sadr City, more blood everywhere. We must hold the Bush Administration accountable now for its crimes, or we will endure with their consequences for years.
A great American, Robert Drinan, once Dean of Boston College Law School and later a Member of the House of Representatives, who died in February, introduced a Bill of Impeachment against Richard Nixon for ordering the bombing of Cambodia in 1973. Cambodia was a neutral nation. This was a murderous crime. Had the Congress acted on that bill, rather than the comparatively minor offense of the Watergate break-in, Presidents after Nixon would have been more cautious about authorizing armed aggression against other nations and George W. Bush might not have dared attack Iraq which posed no threat to the U.S.
2. As President, George W. Bush will escalate U.S. military spending and military force. The radical increase in U.S. military spending by President Bush, which already exceeded that of all other nations combined, following his Shock and Awe assault on Iraq beginning on March 19, 2003 will escalate steadily supporting his further threats, confrontations and war with other nations. The single greatest step toward peace is the reduction of U.S. military expenditures to the level necessary to defend our country. This should be at least a 50% reduction during the next several years with further major reduction thereafter, as international developments permit.
3. As President, George W. Bush will increase U.S. nuclear armaments and missile defense leading to nuclear proliferation, a nuclear arms race, and cold war. Even while Bush threatens Iran and North Korea and warns others that they must not take any action to obtain nuclear weapons, or the ability to make them, President Bush is upgrading U.S. nuclear weapons systems and developing a new generation of nuclear weapons primarily for tactical uses in war or to destroy selected targets in foreign countries. This is a direct violation of U.S. obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty which the U.S. ratified more than a third of a century ago. In addition, the U.S. is developing and installing a Star Wars nuclear missile shield. It is planning to install missiles as a part of this shield in Poland, the Czech Republic and eastern Turkey, all close to the Russian Federation, and is already creating new tension between the U.S. and the Russian Federation tending toward a new cold war. The need is to eliminate all nuclear weapons on earth as intended in the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
4. As President, George W. Bush will continue to propagandize his War on Terror, increase the indiscriminate death and destruction it brings further alienating nations and people, creating fear and international tensions that will enable him to violate international laws including the Geneva Conventions and the Constitution of the United States. He will maintain the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and ignore clear international and U.S. Constitutional rights of prisoners there and in secret prisons in other countries. He will continue to authorize torture of prisoners; motivate and cover up violations of the rights of U.S. citizens and foreign nationals using the Patriot Act to obtain confidential information on people illegally, and other vehicles to cause the CIA, F.B.I., military intelligence, U.S. contractors, and surrogate government agencies of other nations to wage war on human rights.
5. As President, George W. Bush will continue to frustrate and prevent the two state solution he claims he seeks in the Middle East Peace process by such acts as punishing Palestine through life threatening economic sanctions for the election of Hamas by the people of Palestine in a fair democratic contest, by further isolating the U.S., paralyzing its ability to function effectively among Arab states and subjecting U.S. citizens to physical danger.
6. As President, George W. Bush will continue to cause, or tolerate serious violations of U.S. law as in the I. Louis Libby case, to cover-up the falsity of U.S. propaganda that Iraq sought to purchase raw materials for Niger to manufacture weapons of mass destruction by having high officials in his office lie under oath even if their acts endanger a covert CIA employee and the projects she has worked on. He will cause and condone the removal of United States Attorneys from office, if they fail to protect political friends of his Administration in violation of law. The U.S. Attorney is the chief prosecutor in his federal judicial district of crimes against the laws of the United States and the lawyer for the U.S. in civil litigation. At least eight U.S. Attorneys have been wrongfully dismissed for political reasons. It is not known how many of the other 84 U.S. Attorneys retained their offices by illegally submitting to political pressure to protect interests of friends of the Bush Administration corrupting the rule of law.
7. As President, George W. Bush will continue to damage the United States by failing to provide competent government services including medical care for the 20,000-30,000 seriously wounded veterans of his Iraq war even at the flagship Walter Reed Hospital, FEMA services in Louisiana and other Gulf States after hurricane Katrina, and through his own travels in Europe, South America, and elsewhere, to nations where the people do not welcome him, where he is met with angry crowds and requires unprecedented protection for his own safety further alienating the U.S. from friendship essential to friendly relations and peace.
The authors of the Constitution were serious about impeachment and intended that the carefully prescribed procedures and principles for impeachment written into the text be faithfully executed. Provisions for impeachment appear in Article I creating the Legislative Branch, Article II creating the Executive Branch and Article III creating the Judicial Branch. No other issue is treated with such detail and care in the Constitution.
Article II, Section 4 mandates: "The President, Vice President, and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office or impeachment for and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors".
The authors of the Constitution were steeped in English history. It was largely their history. They knew the power of impeachment had liberated England from the tyranny of the King. That history described impeachment as "The chief instrument for the preservation of government" and "the most powerful weapon in the political armory, short of civil war."
At the very time the Constitution was drafted, impeachment proceedings in England against Warren Hastings, Governor General of India for corruption and abuses against the Indian people were at a critical stage. That trial resonated strongly with their own experience leading to the U.S. war for independence.
We must make the Members of the House of Representatives become as serious and courageous about the power of impeachment as the Founding Fathers were.

As everyone knows, House and Senate Democrats are trying to put together an Iraq war spending bill that will pressure the President to bring the troops home sooner rather than later. There is a general consensus on most issues relating to Iraq.
However, the authoritative Congressional Quarterly daily report reveals today that some Democrats are fighting Speaker Pelosi's language which would prevent the President from going to war on Iran without the approval of Congress. Simply put, Pelosi wants to avoid a repeat of the Iraq experience in Iran.
For the Dems, this is a no-brainer, or so one would think. But, according to the CQ some of the same Democrats most vehement about ending the Iraq debacle are resisting denying the President unilateral authority to go to war on Iran.
The hypocrisy is astounding. It is worth noting that the AIPAC conference begins in Washington this weekend with thousands of citizen lobbyists are being deployed to Capitol Hill to deliver the message that Iran must be dealt with, one way or another. This battle over the Pelosi language is part of the overall Iran effort. And you thought it couldn't happen again!

Thursday, March 15, 2007 Life in Iraq is complicated There is a good posting in Lenin's Tomb on the complexities of the Iraqi resistance (see also this Sunni rant), referring to this article on a speech by Kamal Majid (together with a swell Latuff cartoon). Life in Iraq is complicated. Superimposed on a real civil war is a multifaceted resistance, comprised of both Sunni and Shi'ite groups. Despite that, the Americans have decided to concentrate only on killing Sunnis, to the extent that the Shi'ite groups are keeping a low profile when required, in order to remain off the American radar. To keep a scorecard is practically impossible. The main Shi'ite militia groups are vehemently opposed to the Shi'ite pro-Iranian government of Iraq (which is being blamed by the Bush Administration for all the problems in Iraq), the Americans have decided to leave the Shi'ite militias alone and kill Sunnis, who are the mortal enemies of Iran, but whom the Americans claim are armed by Iran, which is, of course, supposed to be the enemy of the United States. Neither the Iraqi Army nor the terrorists - trained by the Americans and Israelis - operating in Iraq can be counted on to kill the people the Americans want killed. According to Seymour Hersh, as the Americans are attacking Sunni groups in Iraq, they are simultaneously financing, with the help of the Saudis, revolutionary Sunni groups associated with al Qaeda in Lebanon and Syria (the prominent reference to al Qaeda makes Hersh's reporting somewhat suspect, although it may just be his idea of a joke; note that his details in Lebanon, if not the master plan, has been seriously questioned), with the goal of reducing Iranian influence, while Saudi King Abdullah and Iranian President Ahmadinejad have a friendly meeting (not to forget Cheney's peculiar mission to Sunni Pakistan to threaten regime change there if more efforts aren't made against the mythical al Qaeda). As Lenin's Tomb points out, the civil war, largely instigated by American actions, both open warfare and covert terrorism, is being spun as the main excuse for both the failure of the Bush Administration in Iraq, and the 'necessity' of remaining 'in country' and continuing to kill Iraqis (who deserve what they get for not gratefully receiving the gift of 'democracy' from the selfless American people). As crazy as all this sounds, it fits the pattern. The only rational explanation is to create a war of everybody against everybody, the ultimate goal of the Zionists, both Christian and Jewish, and very Ledeen-esque.

It is currently in the process of divesting all of its ownership interest in the scandal-plagued KBR subsidiary, notorious for overcharging the military and serving contaminated food and water to the troops in Iraq.
Although Halliburton will still be incorporated inside the United States, moving its corporate headquarters to UAE will make it easier to avoid accountability from federal investigators. The company has proven adept at using offshore subsidiaries to circumvent restrictions on doing business in Iran and to elude responsibility for paying benefits to former employees.
It looks like what's really going on is that Halliburton has decided to construct a new globalized corporate crime strategy. What a fine export. And we were worried about Dubai running some ports!

Perhaps it is because the K in KBR (Kellogg) used to be owned by the Bush family business known as Dresser Industries, which was acquired by Cheney when he was CEO of Halliburton. Dresser Industries bought Kellogg in 1988 and has been in the Bush family since the late 1920s. It is beyond me why this conflict of interest has seemed to escape the national spotlight for all these years.
Cheney's main objective as Halliburton CEO was to bailout the Bush family from asbestos related lawsuits by using Halliburton's money to buy the privately owned Dresser Industries. He then separated Kellogg from Dresser, which quickly claimed bankruptcy, and combined Kellogg with Brown & Root. And now we have KBR, which benefited handsomely from the LOGCAP contracts Cheney so eagerly fought for. Brilliant!

Cheney agrees for Halliburton to take on the Dresser asbestos liability.
It is determined that Bush and Cheney will be (s)elected, and that the PNAC plan will be implemented - using 9/11 as the essential pretext.
Ken Lay plays his role using his Enron smoke and mirrors tactics to create a faux energy crisis in California, causing the public to demand an energy-savvy administration be elected.
With the asbestos liability and other matters hanging in the balance, the election of 2000 simply had to be rigged in order for the plan to go in to effect. (Recall the stopping of the Votes in Jebb Bush's Florida, by Delay's henchmen, and subsequent forwarding election to Supreme Court)
Following the appointment of Bush and Cheney, the secret energy planning meeting established which oil companies would reap the rewards of the pending invasion of Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran.
The timing and the pretext were predetermined, and 9/11 was greenlighted for 9/11/2001. Cheney outsourced the implementation to Mossad, and ran the show from his bunker on D Day under the cover of preplanned drills simulating the exact attack that was proscribed, with NORAD as coconspirator. At least 50 administration officials and countless foreign agents were in on it.
Once the entire charade was concluded, the Administration generally, and Cheney specifically, had every reason in the world to blame Iraq.
The Afghanistan mission could not provide Halliburton with enough revenue to offset the massive asbestos liability claim. Iraq and Iran are essential wars in order to provide cover for the infusion of the billion of TAX DOLLARS necessary to both profit Halliburton for its actual work AND cover the massive asbestos liability claims.
Now you know why Halliburton was awarded the contracts without the need to bid for them. This was all prearranged.
NOTE: Private enterprise pushed its legal/financial obligations onto tax payers using war as the excuse.
The asbestos liability claims of Dresser Industries were ultimately paid by you and me, and our troops in the field, all to ensure that the investors in Dresser didn't take the multibillion dollar loss.

Jeff Sessions (R.-Ala.), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, offered a devastating analysis on the Senate immigration bill in a speech delivered on the Senate floor on Tuesday, May 23. Ordinarily, I fight shy of the risky business of making predictions.
But now, in this space, I am ready to make a prediction about President Bush's State of the Union speech tonight, with what Mark Twain called the calm confidence of a Christian holding four aces.
Here it is: President Bush will not provide the American people with any evidence for his claim that Iran is behind attacks on U.S. troops in Iraq.
National Security Adviser Steven Hadley today dodged the question today of whether President Bush would provide any evidence, saying "that issue has already been pretty well framed."
A Los Angeles Times report today suggests a more straightforward explanation.
He doesn't have any.
In his speech outlining the (supposedly) new U.S. strategy in Iraq, President Bush promised to "seek out and destroy" Iranian networks that he said were providing "advanced weaponry and training to our enemies," Alexandra Zavis and Greg Miller report. But the Bush administration has provided scant evidence to support these claims. Nor have reporters traveling with U.S. troops seen extensive signs of Iranian involvement.
The article notes that in addition to the lack of evidence, some of the claims of U.S. officials are disputed by private analysts and even other U.S. officials, such as the claim that the government of Iran is backing Sunni insurgents who are responsible for most attacks on U.S. forces.
"Few doubt that Iran is seeking to extend its influence in Iraq. But the groups in Iraq that have received the most Iranian support are not those that have led attacks against U.S. forces. Instead, they are nominal U.S. allies." ... "Some U.S. officials have also suggested that Iran, a Shiite theocracy, has provided aid to the Sunni insurgents, who have led most of the attacks against U.S. forces. Private analysts and other U.S. officials doubt that...State Department and intelligence officials have privately expressed doubts that Iranians are helping Sunnis... Sunni insurgents in Diyala don't appear to need outside suppliers... Outside military analysts have questioned how many of these sorts of weapons actually come from Iran. The technology used to make them is simple and widely known in the Middle East, they note."
Pretty damning, eh? But actually, this kind of understates the case. The claim that Iran is supporting Sunni insurgents is highly implausible on its face. Sunni "insurgents" are slaughtering Shiites. The Iranian government sees itself as a protector of the Shiite community in Iraq. Why would it arm the enemies of those it claims to want to protect?
This would be like someone claiming that the U.S. government is supporting militias somewhere that are slaughtering Christians. It's not impossible. Stranger things have happened, and you could come up with a story. But the evidence threshold would be very, very high. And anyone who knows anything about Iran and Iraq knows that the evidence threshold for this is very, very high. Which is why, if they don't provide any evidence for this claim, one is led, by Occam's Razor, to a very simple explanation.
They are lying.

March 15, 2007 | The Bush administration's first instinct was to shield Karl Rove from scrutiny when Congress began inquiring about the unusual firings of eight U.S. attorneys. Among the replacements, the proposed new U.S. attorney for Arkansas happened to be one of Rove's most devoted underlings, his head of opposition research, Tim Griffin, who boasted during the 2000 presidential election about the effectiveness of the negative campaign against Al Gore: "We make the bullets!" Griffin also posted a sign in his department at Bush headquarters: "Rain hell on Al!" A letter written by the Department of Justice in late February informed Congress: "The department is not aware of Karl Rove playing any role in the decision to appoint Mr. Griffin." Despite this categorical disavowal, a sheaf of internal Justice Department e-mails released this week to Congress under subpoena revealed Kyle Sampson, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' chief of staff, writing in mid-December 2006, "I know getting him appointed was important to Harriet, Karl, etc." Harriet, of course, was Harriet Miers, then the White House legal counsel.
The Justice Department's statement on Karl Rove was simply one part of its coverup. The department's three top officials -- Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, Deputy Attorney General Paul J. McNulty and William E. Moschella, principal associate deputy attorney general -- all testified before Congress under oath that the dismissed U.S. attorneys had been removed for "performance" reasons, not because they had been insufficiently partisan in their prosecution of Democrats or because they would be replaced by those who would be. Yet another Sampson e-mail, sent to Miers in March 2005, had ranked all 93 U.S. attorneys on the basis of being "good performers," those who "exhibited loyalty" to the administration, or "low performers," those who "chafed against Administration initiatives, etc."
The day before the e-mails were made public Sampson resigned, offering a classic fall-guy statement, claiming that he was the one who failed to inform Gonzales and other officials about the firings. Sampson, who was Gonzales' closest aide, accompanying him from the White House Counsel's Office to the Justice Department when Gonzales was appointed attorney general, had sought to become a U.S. attorney himself through the purge. And Sampson was considered to be politically adept enough to be considered a stand-in for the supposedly indispensable Rove. When it was rumored that Rove might be indicted in the Valerie Plame case, the Washington Post reported that Sampson was likely to replace him.
Sampson's abrupt departure was followed by Gonzales' bizarre press conference on Wednesday. Speaking in a passive voice that "mistakes were made," he pleaded ignorance of "all decisions" at his department, explained that it has 110,000 employees, appealed to his modest origins, and promised to oversee the investigation of his own misfeasance. His defense was the very grounds used to fire the U.S. attorneys: poor performance. He used his failure as a shield.
But the day before, Gonzales' ignorance defense had already been punctured. A White House spokeswoman, Dana Perino, acknowledged that the U.S. attorneys' dismissals were preceded by a conversation between President Bush and Gonzales last October in which Bush complained that some prosecutors were not pursuing voter fraud investigations. These were, in fact, cases that Rove thought were especially important to Republicans.
Rove was the conduit for Republican political grievances about the U.S. attorneys. He was the fulcrum and the lever. He was the collector of information and the magnet of power. He was the originator, formulator and director. But, initially, according to the administration, like Gonzales, he supposedly knew nothing and did nothing.
Even after the administration alibis had collapsed, the White House trotted out Dan Bartlett, the cool and calm communications director, to engage in a bit of cognitive dissonance. There was no plot, and maybe Rove was involved in the thing that didn't happen. "You're trying to connect a lot of dots that aren't connectible," Bartlett said, adding, "It wouldn't be surprising that Karl or other people were receiving these complaints." Thus the "dots" are invisible and Rove is at their center.
To the extent that the facts are known, Rove keeps surfacing in the middle of the scandal. And it is implausible that Sampson, the latest designated fall guy, was responsible for an elaborate bureaucratic coup d'état. Nor is it credible that Gonzales -- or Harriet Miers, who has yet to be heard -- saw or heard no evil. Neither is it reasonable that Gonzales or Miers, both once Bush's personal attorneys in Texas, getting him out of scrapes such as his drunken driving arrest, could be the political geniuses behind the firings. Gonzales' and Miers' service is notable for their obedience, lack of originality and eagerness to act as tools. The scheme bears the marks of Rove's obsessions, methods and sources. His history contains a wealth of precedents in which he manipulated law enforcement for political purposes. And his long-term strategy for permanent Republican control of government depended on remaking the federal government to create his ultimate goal -- a one-party state.
"We're a go for the US Atty plan," White House deputy counsel William Kelley notified the Justice Department on Dec. 4, 2006, three days before seven of the eight U.S. attorneys were dismissed. "WH leg[islative affairs], political, and communications have signed off..."

INFOWARS.COM Radio with Alex Jones PRISONPLANET.COM January 19, 2004 In a stunning and belated development concerning the attacks of 9/11 Larry Silverstein, the controller of the destroyed WTC complex, stated plainly in a PBS documentary that he and the FDNY decided jointly to demolish the Solomon Bros. building, or WTC 7, late in the afternoon of Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001.
This admission appeared in a PBS documentary originally aired in Sept. of 2002 entitled "America Rebuilds". Mr Silverstein's comments came after FEMA and the Society of Civil Engineers conducted an extensive and costly investigation into the curious collapse of WTC 7. The study specifically concluded that the building had collapsed as a result of the inferno within, sparked, apparently, by debris falling from the crumbling North Tower.
In the documentary Silverstein makes the following statement;
"I remember getting a call from the, er, fire department commander, telling me that they were not sure they were gonna be able to contain the fire, and I said, 'We've had such terrible loss of life, maybe the smartest thing to do is pull it.' And they made that decision to pull and we watched the building collapse." --Larry Silverstein, billionaire Australian Jewish leasehold renter of WTC, who made a double-dip insurance claim for $7-Billion on a WTC that only cost $1-Billion to build, AND IN ADDITION TO the $7-Billion government contract to BFI and Controlled Demolitions Inc to explode/demolish the entire WTC complex ("quadruple-dip")

Mr. Silverstein's comments stand in direct contradiction to the findings of the extensive FEMA report. They even negate Kevin Spacey's narrative in the very documentary in which they appear; "WTC 7 fell after burning for 7 hours." If it had been generally known that the building was "pulled" wouldn't Mr. Spacey have phrased it that way? WTC JEWISH BILLIONAIRE LEASE OWNER SILVERSTEIN, NYFD, PBS CONFESS THAT WTC 6 WAS PREMEDITATEDLY DEMOLISHED WITH EXPLOSIVES BY KNOXVILLE TENNESSEE'S BFI AND CONTROLLED DEMOLITIONS INC USING THE CODE WORD "PULL"
In the same program a cleanup worker referred to the demolition of WTC 6: "... we're getting ready to pull the building six." There can be little doubt as to how the word "pull" is being used in this context.

This shocking contradiction is yet another curious twist in a disturbing series of events surrounding the "collapse" of WTC 7, and the WTC complex in general.
Among these is the fact that, in all the history of high-rise fires, not one has ever resulted in a collapse. On 9/11 three such anomalies were alleged to have occurred. Those who argue that the towers were vulnerable in their top-heaviness and verticality cannot then explain the collapse due to fire of WTC 7, a broad based, 47-story steel-framed building.
There is also the fact that most of the structures destroyed by falling debris were directly under the twin towers, and none of them caught fire. WTC 7 was not only a full city block away from Tower 1 but WTC 6 stood directly between the two buildings and certainly absorbed most of the damage.
In addition, WTC 7 suffered a strangely thorough and complete collapse, leaving only a leveled lot where it once stood. Although it was a much smaller structure, WTC 6's 8-story carcass stood for months afterwards, even after being gutted by Tower 1.
There's also disturbing correlations between the collapse of WTC 7 and the bombing of the Murrah building in Oklahoma City. Both buildings were constructed using the same bridge beam system that, in WTC 7's case, allegedly contributed to its demise. But more importantly WTC 7, like the Murrah building, housed high-level government offices including the FBI, CIA and the Secret Service. WTC 7 was also the storage facility for millions of files pertaining to active cases involving international drug dealing, organized crime, terrorism and money laundering.
WTC 6, also known as the Customs House building, housed the Departments of Commerce, Agriculture and Labor and yet another Murrah building tenant, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
WTC 7 was also the location of a kind of a doomsday bunker (a $15 million project of Rudy Giuliani's), a command post from which to operate in case of a total infrastructure breakdown. Building 7 had apparently been bullet proofed and reinforced to withstand hurricane force winds and attacks of all kinds, a fact which makes its alleged fatal vulnerability to falling debris all the more puzzling.
Mr. Silverstein's comments imply that he and the FDNY threw together an expert demolition job in the space of a few short hours on the afternoon of 9/11. This revelation is staggering enough considering its blatant contradiction to what has been, all along, the official cause of the "collapse." But the fact that the building was buried under tons of debris and consumed in flames at the time makes his comments all the more baffling.
There's a compelling theory that bombs had been planted inside the twin towers designed to complete the job the hijacked jets had begun. A handful of seasoned professional firefighters and demolition men have commented on how neatly and evenly the towers collapsed. Mr. Silverstein's bewildering statements in "America Rebuilds" give an exponential boost in credence to this claim and, in a more terrifying light, loan credibility to growing suspicions that the attacks of 9/11 may have been an inside job.
