End The War -- Impeach Bush/Cheney

National Effort to End the War and Impeach Bush and Cheney
The National Committee to Impeach for Peace announces a coordinated effort to organize a US corporate shopping boycott April 15 (Tax day) to April 22 (Earth Day) to end the Iraq war and Impeach Bush and Cheney. We are asking people to suspend corporate shopping for one week by delaying major purchases, avoiding chain stores and shopping malls, and finding local retailers and small business owners to support.
The message to corporate America -we are not buying it- is a response to Bush's declaration after 9/11 to quietly go shopping. We are not going to be quiet in the face of torture, WMD lies, civil liberty losses and hundreds of thousands civilian deaths. Endorse the Shopping Boycott at:  http://www.wearenotbuyingit.org/

... that just impeaching Cheney would be an excellent first step because Bush's *replacement* for Cheney would have to be approved by a majority of both the House and the Senate. Section 2 of the 25th Amendment [  http://www.doctorzebra.com/prez/a_amendment25.htm ]:

"Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress."

If there is no vice president, who would be the acting vice president? Nancy Pelosi? Could she then invoke Section 4 of the same amendment, charging that George Bush is "unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office" on the grounds that he is either (a) mentally incapacitated or (b) chemically dependent on something, which a lot of people have speculated?

I would think that it would be pretty easy to impeach Dick Cheney, given his obvious involvement with the treasonous business of outing Valerie Plame and her entire world-wide CIA front company, endangering many lives and crippling our intelligence on Iranian weapons capability. And what about his involvement with Enron, Halliburton, etc...?

Cheney is dangerous, and I think he's the one who's really behind a lot of this stuff. We need to get rid of him as soon as possible, before he launches a catastrophic war with Iran. If you think Iraq is bad ... let me tell you, Iran will bring the war home to us. Let's diffuse this ticking time bomb in the Vice Presidency!

A rapidly growing network of organizations including the Green Party, CodePink, the N ational Lawyers Guild, Campus Antiwar Network, Progressive Democrats of America, and many others has launched a major new campaign to push for the immediate impeachment of George Bush and Dick Cheney. The Impeach07 campaign is coordinating a series of initiatives over the next two months that will culminate on April 28 with a nationwide day of protest in towns and cities across America.

George Bush and Dick Cheney have committed high crimes and misdemeanors including misleading the nation into an aggressive war, spying in open violation of the law, and sanctioning the use of torture. These are a betrayal of our most fundamental values of truth, freedom, and justice. Far from being a partisan political quest impeachment is a self-evident moral imperative. Additionally, an investigation into the lies used to sell the war against Iraq may be the best way to increase pressure for withdrawal, and to prevent a new war on Iran.

If you're ready to stand up for truth, freedom, and justice, please visit www.a28.org to get involved. And please help spread the word. There is enormous public support for this, but with a veritable mainstream media blackout on the issue it is crucial that we use the power of the internet to put accountability back on the table.
