The City of Portland's Task Force on Peak Oil will meet for the first time on Tuesday July 25 from 4:30 - 6:30 pm at City Hall's Lovejoy Room. Public comments will be heard during the last fifteen minutes. The task force was established on May 10th to advise the city on the best ways to mitigate the effects of peaking of global oil production - an event which has more or less already occurred. In early July, the City announced the 11 members of the task force as follows: Richard Benner Christine Caruso David Cohan Angela Crowley-Koch Lesa Dixon-Gray Allen Lee Bill Scott Sallie Schullinger-Krause Marcus Simantel Randy White Rowan Wolf
Commissioner Saltzman's press release states: Collectively, the members of the Task Force bring expertise in transportation, land use, business, the food system, building energy use, sociology, and economically disadvantaged populations. Candidates were selected for their ability to bring a multi-disciplinary, systems approach to the issues and for their commitment to seeking solutions that benefit the community as a whole. ~~~~~~~~~~ Tonight's meeting marks the beginning of a six month process to make recommendations to the City regarding a fundamental shift our collective way of life.
