Anyone know of a socially conscious art gallery?

I am looking for a socially conscious gallery to hang a photography/oral history project, as close to downtown as possible.
I work for a nonprofit affordable housing developer, and we are doing an oral history/photography project for our residents downtown. We are looking for a gallery space where we can show the finished photographs, have an opening night party with the residents reciting their poetry or stories, invite lots of people to view over a month, etc. I am new to Portland, so I have been having a hard time finding a place. Our show would be artistic, but mostly a social awareness event and celebration of our residents' lives. Many of them have transitioned out of homelessness, have mental illness, disabilities, etc. I doubt the photos would be for sale, and we would ideally like to not have to pay to hang. We might use the library, but they are booked pretty far out, and I think we'll be ready to hang around January 2007. We're preferably looking for a downtown space. I would appreciate any ideas emailed to me at  mstiles@innovativehousinginc.com. Thanks!

...online penguin power!

Put it all up online first with 'gallery2', as per 'linux' perl package, with members etc. Then your gallery(2) will always exist no matter what physical space is afforded.
