Maybe it's not the funniest way to put it, but the USA/USSR comparison is very clever and can be made hilarious if you know how to do it!
I remember a comic in the American Prospect back in 2005, comparing Bushism to Bolshevism. Also a comic in the Register-Guard of Eugene a few weeks ago "I have no problem with surveillance....if the government wants to search me, that's fine. If Comrade Stalin says it's necessary for Homeland Security, that's good enough for me!"
And our corporate media seems like Soviet Pravda in style and ideological censorship.
If only the Communist had the propaganda machine we have.
Secret prisons? How about all those not so secret prisons: "The International Centre for Prison Studies at King's College London, the U.S. currently has the largest documented prison population in the world, both in absolute and proportional terms. We've got roughly 2.03 million people behind bars, or 701 per 100,000 population. China has the second-largest number of prisoners (1.51 million, for a rate of 117 per 100,000), and Russia has the second-highest rate (606 per 100,000, for a total of 865,000)."
http://www.straightdope.com/columns/040206.html Endless labor? Mandatory paid month's vacation. That's a utopian pipe dream in the good Ol' USA. Maternity leave, what's that? You mean you're still bleeding?
But don't worry, you're going to get a good job with benefits and live happily ever after...I think they call that the American dream.
