Defining Movements

How would you go about defining a movement?
What are the defining characteristics of a movement? What about a movement that is in its early years? Perhaps several opposition groups exist around the country, but there's little dialogue or coordination. Are there key characteristics of Civil Rights movements (Black Rights, Women's Rights, Youth Rights, etc.) that set them apart from other movements (Labor Movement, Anti-Nuclear Movement, Peace Movement, etc.)?

In general, I think movements can be defined by identifying four elements:
-A common Philosophical Basis driving the work.
-Shared Priorities and Goals.
-Shared Strategies and Tactics.
-The presence, degree, and nature of cross-organizational Dialogue and Partnership.
