The attack by Palestinian guerrillas near Kerem Shalom has some important features:
1. It was a military attack on a military target.
2. It was an attack by partisans from the occupied population against active duty soldiers of the occupation army.
3. It used weapons and tactics suitable for the operation, and destroyed assets of the occupation army
4. It targeted the senior officers.
5. It caused consternation and demoralization among the occupation army and the population that supports it.
The Palestinian left must highlight politically the value of this kind of resistance operation, and counter-pose it politically to terrorist operations directed at random Israeli civilians. The latter type of operation demoralizes the oppressed Palestinians, reinforces Zionism's hold on the Israelis, and (in the words of the ANC's Oliver Tambo) "distorts the nature" of the Palestinian struggle.
"President" Abbas has quickly denounced this resistance operation by his oppressed countrymen, and has quickly disclosed his understanding of the proposed agreement over the "Prisoners Document". Abbas shows that he opposes any resistance activity, even the most justified, even the type of activity that is most effective in advancing the Palestinian's goals. Abbas is committed to futile diplomacy, effective security coordination with Israel, and effective suppression of the resistance. See: http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/730780.html
The Palestinian left must highlight politically that the PA negotiations over the "Prisoners Document", facilitated by IDF murder and the starvation blockade, are part of the effort to bring about Palestinian demoralization and political capitulation. The Palestinian left must say that "national unity" can be achieved only by explicit denunciation of Oslo, Roadmap, and Geneva, and their spokesmen, and by unified mobilization of Palestinians and their supporters in Israel and abroad to:
1. End the occupation
2. Release the political prisoners.
3. Let the refugees return.
Anything else plays into the hands of Zionist oppression.
