Ohhhhh, yes. I was a financial victim too -- to the tune of $43,000 -- a 'short term' loan to mount Les Mis here in Grants Pass. Never saw a penny in return -- always some excuse about payment after such and so. Watch out! He knows how to make you believe in his causes and believe in his sincerity.

It is very important that everyone that come in contact with him knows all of this. He is just so good at lying and making you believe whatever he wants that it's scary. He'll lie about having a PHD in Psychology (but no one has every seen it), having random houses throughout the country (no one has ever seen them), and many many other things including jobs that he has had that he uses to build up his credibility. I personally believe he's a pathological liar. Looks like he's finally been caught and couldn't make up a big enough excuse this time. I'm glad this information is finally out, so that more people that have been manipulated can come forward to build a case up against this guy.

He still has many supporters in the Grants Pass area who would gladly defend him and help him start from scratch if they could. Many believe his "scandal" was the creation of a "right wing conspiracy" (where have I heard that one before?!). It would appear that all one need do is claim to be compassionate and caring to lead sheep to the slaughter house. Another great trick is to bite your lower lip and tell people you "feel their pain". Why you can get away with just about anything doing this! If you say, "It's for the children" you can reach into people's pockets and take the money yourself! Believe me, I'm a former member of a Marxist organization in San Francisco. We were schooled on lying. James Pate is deserving of jail time. Restitution to the many he has scammed would be better. Psychological help for his disillusioned supporters is called for.

Yes! It's unbelievable how many in the southern Oregon area still think James was completely innocent and we all are "right wing opposers" or whatever to his vision of peace, love, and community. I remember when James first lied to us all about that. Please help spread this around so that he cannot return here and "start all over" with a whole new crew of decent people. Thanks.

Words cannot describe the enthusiasm with which I read the long over-due allogations against James Pate. I too, regrettably, was swindled out of funds and personal time with one of his musical productions. Fortunately, I didn't lose as much as some did apparently (my condolensces to those of you that did), but nevertheless felt tricked and manipulated. And I have many friends also involved who were promised payments for various services in the productions, all of whom are still unpaid. I'm glad hiw wrong-doings are finally being brought to light, and I hope justice will be rendered.

I was a cast member in The Laramie Project and that production meant the world to me. CTD had a wonderful vision and was so important to the community of Southern Oregon. James Pate manipulated and distorted our quest as he pretended to be our leader. It's shameful what this man does. CTD and diversity awareness were growing causes in our community and his crimes hurt absolutely everyone in the community. I never truly trusted him even when we were friends because I knew that there was something about him that could not be trusted- I hope this site is evidence enough for the community of Eugene to take heed.

It makes me sad that someone so close to me and my friends would do something like this. However, this comes to me as no surprise. You can't do this to others and expect everything to be fine. Time to grow up and face the music, James.

It wasn't until after I stopped sharing space with James that I came accross this definition of a sociopath. In my experiences with him, I witnessed all seven of these behaviors. He is in need of psychiatric help and I pray that he finds it before more people are fucked over and hurt.

you people need to get a life. just because someone wrongs you doesn't mean he's a sociopath. it sucks, yeah, but it doesn't mean he needs professional help. you all need to come to the realization that not everyone you meet in your life will live up to the expectations you set for them. i have not even seen james for a long time, and yes, he owes me money too. but i am not so naive to think that just because someone does me wrong, that means he needs professional help. you all need to grow up and realize that not everything is always gonna go your way. james is a decent guy with big dreams. his dreams are too big, though, and they end up getting him in trouble, but he's not mental. you all need to get over being bitter, and move on.

Angela- On my part,I never stated that "James" needed professional help. I stated that the need for his supporters (like you) to get psychological help was called for. If you think James is a "decent guy with big dreams", than you certainly need some help. Do you honestly think stealing $43,000 plus is "decent"? Do you honestly think his dreams could not be attained without "stealing and deceiving"? People like you enable James to keep stealing and deceiving others. James is not decent and he has schemes, not dreams. The reason I addressed his supporters in the first place was because I know that people like James cannot exist without people like you. His supporters, his believers are what keep him going. So again, Angela, it is not James who needs help, it is you and people like you. You fuel his fire to the detriment of others.

This is a site that was set up with the purpose of stopping a con-man... It is not a forum for name calling or for bashing those who have been or are being charmed by James. It is to educate those who are unaware of his intentions and actions as to end the cycles of manipulation. Miles, I understand your frustration with supporters of James (i was one of his biggest supporters for three years and am extremely frustrated with myself) but name calling and judging, I fear, won't help at all. Educating these folks is all that can be done. Your negative tone is not pro-active. It won't help. Keep the passion but lose the judgement. The real issue here is that there is a true con-man in our community that needs to be stopped and needs to be held accountable for what he has done.
Angela, I appreciate your stance... but I was probably the closest to James and I agree, without a doubt in my mind, that he is sociopathic. Only a few of us that were living with James saw the other sides of James. He was extremely talented at keeping a smile on his face until everyone else was out of the office and then his true colors would show. He was controlling, abusive, and cared nothing for others' feelings. He had no sence of consequence and much of what he has done is illegal. Yes, his dreams were big... Too big, perhaps. But big dreams don't mandate money laundering, theft and lies. This man has bad intentions. He is not a con-man by default, I can assure you.

I agree with the anonymous writer above and I appreciate your comment. Calling people names in this forum is pointless and doesn't get us anywhere. But I do think Angela has a point. I'm not just agreeing with her because she's my sister, but what's done is done. There's no point in stressing over it. And please do not tell me "But you don't know how we feel because he doesn't owe you money". No, he doesn't owe me money, but I do have a right to an opinion here. I do not say you should support James, because me and my sister certainly do not. What Miles said about Angela was not true. I see no hint in her statement that she supports James and I'm sure that if he tried to get money out of her then I am sure she would NOT give it to him.

I worked with Connect the Dots from their first show to their very last.
And I'm not going to say, "I always knew there was something wrong."
Because, sadly, I did not.
I did however notice that things often seemed "off", "doomed to fail", and at times "catastrophically disorganized."
Toward the end however, to not know something was "wrong" was to be blind, deaf, and dumb.
I've spoken with others who concur that the atmosphere surrounding The Green Room as it limped off into oblivion was sickly at best and hellishly discordant at worst, and can recall a feeling of being physically ill from just being there.
I've heard many things since the Coffee House was closed. I'm not sure what to believe. The stories range from plausible to wild and ridiculous sounding. I take it all with a grain of salt, keeping in mind that "telephone" game from childhood. The one where you whisper in someone's ear and they whisper in the ear of the next person and in the end it all comes out garbled and half Japanese.
I knew it was probably going under, the whole business was just visibly sinking. But it wasn't until I heard some of the things being said about James that I experienced any shock or disbelief concerning any of the goings on at death of CTD.
I can remember saying on more than one occasion over the years, "Just when I think I know James, I learn something new about him, and it's always something amazing/unbelievable." Amazing and unbelievable. Those two words sum up for me the entirety of my dealings with CTD better than any others could.
And so, James, if you're reading this, and from what I "know" about you, I'm fairly certain that you are, I find it hard to believe all of the things I've been hearing. Even harder to believe is that people would make it all up from scratch. I strongly believe in innocent until proven guilty, but there's always a genesis to any rumor and this knowledge casts sad shadows on my once great love and respect for you and your supposedly selfless and passionate extremes.
Simply it can be put this way: If even a fraction of it is true, and the shattered trust and wreckage that you've left behind suggests that some of it is, then you are, as I've always suspected, without a doubt, amazing and unbelievable. But not the way I and many others thought. Not that way at all.

My apologies to anyone I might have offended with my comments. Angela, I was just so stunned that you would describe James as a "decent guy" that I took you as a person who was defending him. Truly, I see nothing "decent" about him.
As others have stated, the important thing is that people become aware of James Pate and that he his a fraud, a liar and a thief.

I stayed on and off with James, often loaning him small portions of money. I became friends with him along with a group of my older friends. I'd expected somethign to be up with him the whole time but nevet spoke out much against it, most people that knew him just said I was being a jerk. I happend to be able to retrieve most of the money I loaned to him back, he is good at minipulating, but not with me. Most thing that bothered me was that he abused so many mentaly to manipulate them. Just keep up your guard.

I've heard that James may be planning on moving to Boise, Idaho. I've also heard that he has been using an old alias, Sebastian James.

he was really nice to me when we hung out. i did not know him that much. but he did seem kind of shady around people he thought he could not manipulate. i think me realized i was too distant to some. he was nice while i knew him, and i dont know personally what he has done, but for those of you who have suffered, i hope you get what you have got taken from you and i hope he comes to justice..

We had the pleasure of being host to that little Con artist/creep, Pate. We had hosted one of his theater productions at Lithia Springs last year. So, I guess as his way of showing his appreciation, he came back and stayed with us, runnning up a bill of close to a thousand dollars and paid us with a bad check written on an account that had been long closed. I guess, this was his way of repaying us for helping his theater company. Anyway, none of our staff apparently was aware of criminal past and fell we just baecame another victum. I can't believe there are people who think he is victum of an conspirsy to discredit him. Dah! Wake and smell the roses.

Stangely enough, that smame day, someone also stole some our our payroll checks from the office that day and "someone" meeting his description, tried to cashed one of the checks at Umpqua Bank in Rogue River that same evening. In that person's company, was a younger blonde male with what was described by the teller as heavier with curly hair.

Perhaps I'm wrong but my guess is one, or more, of James Pate's followers has been aiding him all along. Perhaps even someone who has posted on this site. It seems to me that it would be hard to pull this off without local help before and after the crime.
Unfortunately, there are some who feel turning against James is turning against "the cause". The great cause of love and compassion of this so-called "decent man" and his big dreams.
Hopefully, those of you who have been closest to James will "connect-the-dots" and aid law enforcement in finding these supporters and James. Someone is still under his spell. Who could it be? Who is most likely? What is your best hunch? Let law enforcement know what you know. Who knows what a desperate James Pate will do. You may be saving a life.

I know that James is a Meth addict. He tried to addict someone close to me.

Okay. I would agree that James is in a huge cycle of trouble right now.
He's stealing is getting worse and worse (particularly if he just robbed a bank).
The guy needs help. No doubt about it.
Those who defend him should probably seriously take a look at all of the info. Particularly his life before Connect the Dots. Stories of his times in Wolf Creek. Stories of his life on the east coast.
But to say he is a meth addict... well, now people are just making up crazy stuff.
It's easy to hate this guy... but I don't. I just hope he gets caught and gets help.

I, too, know for a fact that James has a huge problem with meth and has a history of meth use. I worked with him for three years and never kew about his drug use until after the fact. He had stayed clean for about the first two years of connect the dots but during the last year of the company's life, James was tweeking. This isn't just folks making stuff up, he has a serious meth problem. For those that were around during the end of ctd, James was "sick" a lot with what he told us was lukimia... In reality, he was in the back room sleeping for days on end because he was coming down after several days of being awake. I haven't a doubt in my mind that he's using now, what with robbing a bank and all.

I was hired by James for several of their productions in Grants Pass to design and produce the posters and playbills. He had gained my trust as a client early on by paying with "good checks" so I became more relaxed about receiving advance payment. Big mistake. James had lots of excuses for not having a check ready... "we had some fraud issues with our bank account and we're switching accounts. I can't get you paid until next week..." was ONE of the reasons! Preceded by "I don't have the check book now", "one of our sponsors fell through and let us down", "we have to wait until we get all our bills for the production before we can pay you", and on and on. At first, I was patient and tried to be understanding as I assumed these excuses had some truth to them.

When his overdue bills with me exceeded $4,000 and months of work... he told me that he couldn't pay me unless I helped him raise the money! He recruited my mom (an event planner) and I to help plan a fundraiser. The event was very successful (he told us so) but when we went to cash our checks... the bank teller informed us that there wasn't enough money in the account to pay. Again, we received more excuses from James. Eventually, my mom received payment and I received partial payment. He still owed me thousands of dollars.

Finally, I realized that he had no intention of paying me the balance. As a small business owner, I hoped to recover it through Small Claims Court. James ignored all attempts to reconcile, set up a payment plan, my letters offering a compromise, etc. After months of Small Claims processes... I still never received most of the money he owed me. And get this... one of the times I was filling out the paperwork to have the sherrif's office "serve" the papers... I asked if he knew where their office was. His reply, in hushed under-his-breath confidentiality, "oh yes, I've been there before." (Not word for word, but the jist.) Needless to say, I am STILL owed thousands of dollars by James. From what I understood and discovered from others like me, his debts exceeded $75,000... Several of us in the community were being swindeled and slowly realizing that we weren't the only ones! How long did he think he could get away with it?

So yes, I've been manipulated out of thousands of dollars and time spent trying to recover it... but even worse, I was a volunteer in other areas who was used as a pawn in his devious schemes. Like many others who hoped to be a part of a wonderful cause by donating time and talents, I feel bitter having been affiliated and blindly believing in his sincerity.

I am happy to see others coming forward with their experiences with James. Perhaps our courage will help officials put his schemes to rest. I will not proclaim to have "known" James well or diagnos his issues... but his history is clearly not reputable whatever his "true" motives or intentions are.

First a question to the person in the subject line from above; "So..heard he was using his old alias Sebastian James." What would be his "birth name, or legal name"?

Can anyone out there tell me his brother's name? And what about the third brother..they were triplets you know..He mentioned one brother and not the other...or was it quads..and one died and there are three or triplets and one died and now two..?

Where do the brothers live?..Supposedly San Francisco is where one brother is...now that I question that..I have to ponder what would have happened if that journey had been made?

He appears to have concern for your well being..while he moves in closer to your personal space..and then proceeds to break it down bit by bit..slowly with your trust, he moves in..and then, with one arm around your shoulder, a smile on his face..a concern from his heart..he draws you closer to him....as the other hand secretly creates havoc and gives you a reason to seek consoling...

Part of me still cares a great deal for him..concerned for his well being....the other part of me...sees the true, rawest..form of his "Hyde" side...

I worked with James and CTD on a couple of occasions and had a couple run ins with bad checks when I played in the orchestra for one show. I did eventually get the money (of which apparently I am one of the few) so I had no reason not to trust them. I did one fundraiser, and before I moved I did a 'small' (very small) going away thing at the coffee house. I remember telling him I was moving to Phoenix and he said, "Don't be alarmed if you see someone who looks just like me, I have a twin in Phoenix."

Now this is a big place, and I have kept my eyes peeled. Suffice it to say if I see anyone who looks like him I will not be my normal shy, diminuative wall flower of a Diva, I will go up and see what the story is. So perhaps he was foreshadowing a move to phoenix claiming to be a twin. I pretended to be my twin once, but my mom quickly figured out the trickery after a week.

Who is Sean and what part did he play in all this. A blond male who was described as having curly blond hair did all the talking when he and James tried to cash some stolen checks few weeks ago. (Does Sean have curly blond hair?) There attempt was at the Umpqua Bank in Rogue River, driving James' blue accord. If you know whether Sean fits this description or the name Pate was given at birth and where he was born, please post it on this site.

james is, in fact, a meth user. i am a recovering addict, clean for 217 days, but james used to be a "friend" of mine. i bought from him and smoked with him on numerous occaisions. in addition, he isn't a twin or a triplet. don't be fooled by this con.

Hi all, Well it seems the huddled masses have come togeather with pitchforks and torches. Well let's storm the castle and see if we can get the monster. I met James ( Or whoever he may really be ) when he dated my friend many years ago in Minneapolis, Mn. James was so interesting in the fact that he always had so many great "life" stories to tell. He almost always presented himself as a very articulate, high energy and motivated kinda guy. There was a very dark side to "James", however.( the "james without the mask ) If he didn't get his way? He would in glorious form turn into something not quite human. Extreme moods swings, horrible verbal abuse, and threats of violence were commonplace. When he would get this way...? It was hard not to quickly start looking in the phone book under " Exorcisist". You could see it in his eyes that he knew his unleashed evil was showing. Very quickly he would put the mask back on and became, once again, the very likeable person we all knew. It's difficult to dislike this person until the damage is already done. He can be quite funny and knowledgable. But maybe we should remember that this person is different than most people and that he is simply.......a predator. Could we , or rather would we be this uptight about a bee sting or a snake bite..???? Animals and humans do what it is in their nature to do......and yes society has tamed most of us to be sociable, acceptable, and to a moderate-high degree...conformists. But there are people like "James" that remain reliant on instinct alone. All without conscience or consequences. It is very rare to actually see one of these people in action. To fall under the spell of someone, not gifted but, just going on survival mode alone. His moves are quick and executed with timing that can only be classified as "perfection". Do I know him? No, I don't believe anyone will know the real "James". I think he may have forgotten also. I do know the devastation he is capable of causing. Do I hope that they find him and lock him up?? Sure.............but he wouldn't survive in captivity. He would find a way out or kill himself. So this is it....here we are. Those of us that have met him and have all been indoctrinated into the life group embarrassingly known as the "I have just taken it up the ass club" in some way or another. Sunday afternoon while driving I saw four people walking, 2 on one side of the road, 2 on the other. They were obviously looking for something on either side of the road. It's unusual to see one person walking in the 95 degree heat, but four doing the same thing? Up ahead of the four was a blue Honda-type car with a guy sittiing in the driver's seat, just sitting on the side of the road, like he was waiting for the walkers to catch up to the car.....

I didn't know anything about the bank robbery at the time, but wondered when I saw it on the news if these people I saw Sunday had something to do with it.... The four on foot were 2 guys and 2 women. Now I'm wondering what it was they were searching for. James Pate may very well still be in the area. I have contacted the police about it.

I hope they get him soon, especially after reading about how many people he has conned money out of. RR

You could say the seriously negative balance in my account has purchased that car.. I was approached by him to assist him with selling his belongings to get the bills paid to my good friend and her kids that he committed to pay money to and owed money to. I was not able to follow through with what he asked, but thankfully someone was able to follow through with that. I am a very forgiving and open minded person..in my experience...you could say that I first handedly experienced many things spoken about here. I am very hurt, hoping he would follow through with his words, and instead I see untruths...
I do believe in some ways he was sincerely touched, said he didn't realize how prideful he was...a couple other things too..I felt was sincere..but I don't know..at least I tried to sow some seeds of humanity..while protecting my friend..

A nationwide warrant has been issued for the man suspected of robbing a bank in Gold Hill; local police on Monday gave the FBI a bulletin regarding James Pate.

Investigators say that Pate has a criminal history in four states, and holds driver's licenses in Alaska and California.

They believe he could be hiding out in Redding, California; Beaverton, Oregon (just outside Portland); or in the states of Idaho or New Mexico.

Police say Pate robbed the Washington Mutual in Gold Hill on Thursday afternoon after slipping the teller a note saying he had a gun.

He may be driving a blue-green '94 Honda Accord.

It is my opinion that James is experiencing "meth Psychosis" whichs accounts very nicely for his erratic, anti-social. psychotic and outright stupid behavior. He is a pathological liar, one the most proficient I have ever experienced. I do believe that James is a dangerous person, to others, and to himself. He defruaded and outright stole from his friends and buisness associates in the Illinois Valley out of many thousands of dollars.

He was in Boise, Idaho on Monday the 17th. I got a call from him saying he was still interested in renting a rm from me. I was out of town when he called. He was supposed to call me at 7 that evening. I arranged with the Boise police to have him meet me at a designated spot. He did not call. Apparently he robbed a bank around 5 that afternoon in Mountain Home, Idaho.
At this point, no idea where he is.
The police and I are hoping he may still call me and ask if the rm is still for rent.
So far no calls.

I first met James Pate when I was perfoming in RMT's "Fiddler on the Roof". He worked in the ticket booth, but I don't know what his connection was to RMT. I next remember seeing him when I went to see "Grease". I don't believe my conversations with him have totalled more than five minutes. I never auditioned for any plays or musicals put on by CTD. He owes me no money and has never done anything to me personally.
The first bad things I remember hearing about James and CTD was when I dated a woman from Central Point. She had spent a lot of money to take her mother and sister on a "river cruise/dinner show" put on by CTD. She had called ahead of time to find out whether her mom would have to walk far from the boat to the dinner and was told that transportation would be provided for "disabled" patrons. It turned out that her sister and she had to carry her mom to the shore and help her climb a hill. She also said the dinner was terrible and that there was not enough food or wine to cover the crowd. She also told me that there was no sound system and that it was immpossible for a person with perfect hearing to understand the actors much less her mother who had hearing difficulties. When she complained she was treated rudely.
The next complaint I heard was from an actor who played in "Little Shop of Horrors" and was not paid. He was given several checks that bounced and was lied to several other times about getting cash. He has never been paid.
Next came a complaint of a man who loaned James and CTD over $2,000.00 in equipment and never got it back. His requests to have the equipment returned were met with arrogance.
The straw that broke the camel's back for me was when I read on this site about the $40,000 stolen from Susan Russell. Anyone who knows Susan and the amount of dedicated work she does for local theatre has to be inflamed by this act!
What really gets me is people like you who will do nothing to help the victims or to help law enforcement to catch this criminal. You can do something. You can start by making a statement at the Sheriff's office. Let them decide whether you have any valuble information. You could gather his friends and have them do the same. You could help organize a benefit show for the vitims.
And, yes, it sickens me to hear "niceties" spoken of such an evil person.

James is now on the run. He apparently robbed a bank in Rogue River Oregon and many residents called in to report his picture from the bank monitors. The community came forward to expose this con artist whom they were afraid would get away with his white collar crimes. He has reportedly also been named a suspect in a robbery in Idaho as well.

Anyone who needs a explanation of James is behavior should look to the affects of shooting and sniffing Meth to get high. He reportedly got hooked and went crazy, always needing to obtain new and better sources of the drug.

To the victims, never again!

James, what are you doing? You are only making the situation worse for yourself. You can only run for so long. How long are you planning on hiding, the rest of your life? I miss you James. You were always my friend and I still hope that you are. But this is not the proper way to deal with the situation at hand. If I would have known what you were planning, I would have turned you in before you robbed the bank in Gold Hill. I would have only done this to keep you from getting in even more trouble, like you have done. I hope I see you again, someday.

I never met the guy. I only have friends that were seriously ripped off by James.
I have read every entry. Let it role Gail. This kind of person causes many feelings that are often never dealt with. Remember, he laid this on everybody else. It seems that a major part of the information that people have to share is the hurt, the wrongs, the surprise of what this person and people like him have done and continue to do. And what their reactions are. How they are being effected and what they think of it all is important.
Being aware of the facts is a good thing. Not only to bring to justice James, and to prevent others from getting swindled , but to bring some closure as well. Sharing pain and anger is a good thing also.
If it causes one to curse and to spit, and to call names, then best we try to understand their pain, than to make them keep it to themselves.
I found most profound, the entry that stated nobody probably knows who James really is, and he has probably forgotten himself. Wow! Can you say,
"opposite of Nirvana" ? Like, A living hell on earth.
And it just maybe that which captured the hearts and spirits and eventually the cash of everyone, may have been the real deal. The blessed are as susceptible to being thwarted by false pleasures and mental instability as anyone else. Don't get me wrong. I am not mused, nor so willing to forgive the likes of this person so quickly, and even though a small man that he is, I would without regret whip his ass thoroughly, first and foremost. Then the authorities and professional help, and compassion.

James, I assume you are reading this. Your craving for attention would not allow you to ignore it. There are some things I'd like you to know. For one thing, if you ever had any of the goals you spoke so frequently and passionately about, involving building community, you should know that there actually was a chance at realizing much of what you talked about. You may have gotten closer than you thought to actually doing some good. Perhaps you realized this. Maybe that was what started you backtracking feverishly -- the possibility of success. When I offerred you my bookkeeper's services to help straighten things out in January 2005, this was apparently unwanted help, because you repeatedly sabotaged the process. Never mind the thousands of dollars you got from me, or the 72 hours of my labor installing the expensive tile I donated to The Green Room. You could have gotten a lot more from me, my company, my friends. All you needed was a few shreds of integrity. Just some real honesty about your situation, and some actual good intentions. There was so much more available to you.

The worst part is not the money, in my case. There are others for whom that is not the case - they can't afford what you stole from them monetarily. Frankly, the worst part overall is the damage you did to people's dreams, and to their belief in the basic goodness of humanity. Then there is the damage done to all the causes you supposedly espoused. Anyone who actually fights for those causes (in real life, James) has been dealt a killer blow by your fraud. That is the real rip-off. We're all more wary, more cynical, less trusting, less helpful to others than we were before you cheated us.

Sure, I can deal with the embarrassment of my association with the likes of you. It's not going to make or break me. I can hear you laughing, saying "Man, you got off EASY". Well so far, so have you James. We'll see how this works out down the line, though.

I like Sarah's idea of JAMES PATE THE MUSICAL. With any net proceeds going to help the victims (proportionately, of course - Susan first).

sorry that i did not clarify which bashing seems unecessary---rant about james but don't bash one another. (i am amoung those who have experienced deep hurt as a result of james actions--personal pain will pass, but community troubles as stated by Barry are far more reaching.

I do not know this person, nor do I wish to. However, I have many friends throughout this area that I have forwarded this info to. Thank you for these postings. I have read each and every one, and I find this to be an interesting case. I checked out the MySpace account listed above and found the last login to be today.

I lift up your son, James. Oh my goodness, what has he done? Lord, you are
working here....you have a plan and it is SO incredibly difficult to see through
the smoke and dust of the destruction that James seems to have caused in the
lives of countless people. Clear that smoke Lord and reveal yourself and your
will for James. He is searching to fill something in his life, he is in search
for significance and acknowledgement and acceptance. He know desires forgiveness and
peace. Lord, help him to realize that all of that can only truly be found in

To the public readers: I was married to one of the Pate brothers for 6 years. I knew James well for the first 2 years of the marriage. I haven't seen or heard from him since December of 2000. I am recently divorced....like brother like brother.

The name of James's brothers are Jerry in Phoenix, and John (whereabouts unknown) Jerry was married to a friend of mine and has 2 children. They are now divorced, and Jerry has been in jail most of the last year. He conned his wife's father out of approximately $180,000.00 and ripped off many others, including a business partner for additional hundreds of thousands of dollars. Jerry went to Belize and was caught trying to rip off a beachside resort from a local owner. Jerry had devised a real estate scam to bilk the owner out of his property. He was caught and deported back to the U.S. and has been in jail. He was recently released.

In reply to Azil's question about the names of James's brothers. They were actually quads, but one died in childbirth. Jerry and John are the 2 surviving brothers of James. Jerry and James look alike, John, similar but not exactly. Jerry was married to a friend of mine but are now divorced, and they have 2 children. Jerry ripped off his father-in-law for approximately $180,000. James is one of triplets. Jerry is the one that looks just like James, and John has darker hair. Jerry is suppose to be in Phoenix, but since he has not reported to his probation officer lately, we are not sure, and John is in Black Canyon City, AZ.

Be aware that these boys tend to meet up with each other when one is in trouble, so Jerry may make an appearance. Jerry has just finished some jail time in Belize and a 6-month jail sentence in Phoenix, AZ and is now in violation of his parole. We suspect he has some contact with James. John is usually just the "yes" man...never the brains of their schemes.

Jerry married our daughter and emotionally abused her RIGHT from the start!! All the while conning us for money, and we were actually sucked in by him. His emotional abuse soon headed toward physical. He is the most charming con man you will meet. If he shows up, DO NOT trust him or his, "I'm the victim" stories. He was accused of fraud in Phoenix right out of highschool when he and James tried to get him on a ballot for a school board, and they forged signatures. He alone has embezzled money from J.F.K. University in Orinda, CA where he was student president. Then he moved back to Phoenix and misused our funds and that of many others with the help of James.

After our daughter finally left him, he tried to hire someone to harm her and he harrassed her and her family and friends. At one point in Oct. 2005 he jumped bail and went into Mexico and then into Belize where he scammed so many others out of thousands. The Belize government deported him back to the states where he ended up here for a jail sentence.

Both Jerry and James are pathological liars and complete textbook psychopaths.

If anyone knows the whereabouts of James, please do us all a favor and contact the police either in Oregon or Idaho. And if Jerry shows up, let the Phoenix police know.

No I haven't seen this site until now. I did do a google search in June or July sometime and saw the "Con Artist" heading of this press release, and I had an anxiety fit and turned off the computer. I just couldn't bring myself to open it up. The next time I heard about it was when the Detective from Maryland told me about it and asked if I had seen it. The next was when the FBI asked me about it and specifically about what some people had said.

For all of you who think this has been a big adventure for me, and that I have no concern for your feelings -- it couldn't be further from the truth. As I dug myself deeper and deeper I became ill from the guilt and hurt I know I have caused. What hurts even more in this moment is knowing that so many people have no idea what I stand for. This is very difficult for me -- I can't even begin to put it in words.

Getting arrested and going to jail....what a wake up call. I call it stop and pause. I spent an entire month in 23/1 lockup.....where I was only out for an hour a day. I have had a long time to think. One thing that's obvious to me know is that a lot of you are hurt and don't know what to think. I have to say that not everything's true on this site either. It is apart of the human condition to say, "oh yeah, that's why my life isn't working out either." There's two offerings on here that I shake my head at....the thing is, it's not like I have a leg to stand on, so I will keep my mouth shut. You know who you are. Enough said. The rest of you I love very much. I think of the Thanksgiving dinners at Susan's house, late night with Barry and Debbie and our wine talks, laughing with Meagan - who I have to say is one of the most loving right leaning Christians I have ever known and whos friendship taught and offered me a lot; Brian, I understand your comments, I love you and Brianna and always will -- the time we spent together I will always remember and cherrish; Caleb and Cameron - if you see this, I miss you SOOOO much; Christian and Esther you guys are the best; Shane, you took an adventure with me, one that I believed in so deeply, I am sorry for everything....I am sorry you are so hurt by all of it, you are an amazing person and I will always love you. I have been cooperating with the police completely. I was released yesterday and walked around D.C. I had a few friends today stop me on the street. So many of them never knew the James some of you speak of in your postings. I chose not to cover it up.... I amazed myself when I told them the truth. I didn't say the whole story but the larger bullets were all what was really going on. It was hard, I wanted to hold on to something I did right and not pollute it. Now it's all the same....I'm learning to be all that I am in every moment.

My Oregon experience taught me that everyone has their truth and should hold on to it. So, yes -- a lot of what was said here hurts. More than half of it is true in some way -- although I hope some of you can realize in some way that I genuinely was building a dream from a scared state. Barry had some of it right on - in terms of how I identify with it all now. I never dealt with the pain growing inside......I never dealt on a real level with myslelf. I fully belived in what we were doing and that things would manifest accordingly. For any of you, especially Susan, to see it otherwise just isn't so. It was always my intention to grow forward, I just became more compromised and less capable and in this ongoing pattern more confusing to the people around me. I now completely understand why you feel the way you do.

I am Very, Truly, Incredibly sorry. Words just can't say enough.

I can't believe I found this site 15 years after falling victim to James Pate. I see no one has posted in a while, but in case anyone is looking for info on James in the future, I want to say that James was stealing and lying at least as far back as 1994. I met him when he was working as an independent contractor doing events planning for a nonprofit. I was just beginning my career and managed to land my first big job - somehow James finagled his way onto the job with me. He seemed like a great guy and I thought he was helping me. Unfortunately, he ended up stealing everyone's money and managed to leave me holding the bag with both companies. He destroyed my career just as it was beginning, and damaged a lot of other people's too. He even stole some money from me personally. Then he just sort of disappeared and left a lot of people dazed about what had happened - even people who considered him a friend. James managed to do what he did because he is a brilliant con artist - he can steal your money in the most blatant way and you still can't believe he did it, not this guy, not the James I know, etc. etc. He could never have done that, there must be some excuse, maybe drugs, maybe cancer, maybe AIDS, who knows. But no, James is just a con artist. A brilliant, brilliant con artist. He hurts people without remorse, so maybe that makes him pathological, I don't know, but hopefully anyone thinking of trusting him can see that he has a long history of lying and stealing. Don't trust him, NO MATTER WHAT. Remember that there's a reason James has deceived so many smart people for so long. James is extremely dangerous. Hopefully he's in jail somewhere now. That's where he belongs.

has anyone thought to check in atlanta!!!!..(midtown) he use ta hangout around that area years ago..he has alot of connections there...he dabbles in the gay scene..and yes he does do crystal meth..i knew him back in the day yeeears ago..he dated a young guy with blond hair back then..( he was very abusive to him though very!!)..i knew james! i use ta live with him..back then he was promoting shows and doing private parties at clubs in the mid-town area.wow im not surprised by running into this site.. i was just looking for him.(just wondering what hes upto) til i googled his name and found this site......bank robbing conning people...wow thats james!!..i remember back in atlanta he connned alot of non profit orginizations and charities he literally lived off of making money swindling people and he was good it.................for me now its been over 15yrs since ive seen him, and after reading everthing on this site he needs ta be caught and put in jail...he knows what hes doin!!!!! trust me!! he aint sick hes just too smart and has no soul and no remorese for anyone feelings (i remember of him clear as day)......if your lookin for him id search in the atlanta area!!!!!!!!!!!!he probably has a place to stay there..no ones mentioned that on this site...knowing james hes probably walking in plain sight in atlanta just livin it up...where backstreet use to be on juniper st around that area!!!
