Vancouver WA progressive activist Dave Goldberg had an idea for a "Wrong Way March" & saw that idea realized today.
About 125 people gathered within the bandstand of Esther Short Park on this cold wet day to hear excellent speakers:
Bob Goss, Marjorie Casswell, Marion Ward, Christopher Luna, & State Rep Jim Moeller.
Bob spoke powerfully as a Viet-Nam medic-vet against the tragedy of war.
Marjorie spoke about Washington's clean energy I-937 campaign.
Marion spoke about her visit to Iran & countered current lies about that country.
Chris read intense poems about peace & truth.
Jim spoke about the "wrong way" our country is headed & what the right way should be.
About 95 of us then began a long winding walk thru downtown Vancouver, stopping along the way to show our many many signs to motorists, signs with messages about human rights, justice, free press, environment, health care, & so on. (Thanks, Edie.)
The walk was spirited & orderly & intelligent, & ended more raucously back at the Park & along Farmers' Market.
Two city officers on bikes stayed within a block or two, respectfully leaving us alone but ready to help if needed, as is typical of our excellent relationship with our police.
Motorists were courteous, & most of those who signaled us did so positively.
This march was backed by Vancouver For Peace, as part of our continuing work within Vancouver, & the world, to promote justice & peace.
Please check our website for the many forms our ideals take, ideals manifested by action, every week.
Thanks to Dave & to all who stood together for yet another act among the many which together, in every community, can change the direction of the nation, which belongs to us, the people, NOT the corporations or the parties or the corrupt aristocracy. The nation belongs to US, & WE will decide the direction it takes, & that way will be toward Justice.
