re: no womyn+trans 24.May.2006 12:47

Cascadia Forest Defenders forestdefenders@riseup.net

We had discussed the benefits and strengths of having an all womyns+trans action camp, which some people described, among other things, as providing 'shortcut' to feminism. We decided to focus on an all-inclusive action camp in the hopes that all participants might be able to engage themselves in a radical critique of gender and other oppressive instiutional and intimate structures. We're hoping that after the past years of creating and nuturing an exclusive space (not, this is not the same as a 'separatist' space), people might be ready to come together, and make more nuanced connections about feminism and environmental destruction. If you consider the workshops, you'll notice we're really trying to emphasize the 'feminist' element of the event in the hopes that people will come knowing that this is where CFD is at; we hope this will root out the standard contingent of people who are resistant to confronting patriarchy and dealing with their shit. Also, at least one workshop will be for womyn+trans people. Hopefully folks who attend will feel that if they need that space, they can still have it in the context we're hoping to create this time around.

See you in the woods.
