Teen ComicFest @ Beaverton City Library

Sat, May 13 from 11am - 4pm the Beaverton City Library will put on their first ComicFest for young adults in grades 6-12. Their will be workshops, door prizes, comic book swaps, Dark Side Troopers, and a costume contest (just to name a few).
Our first Teen ComicFest ever!

Graphic novel and Manga loving teens will converge on the library Saturday, May 13th from 11am to 4pm in Meeting Room A/B @ the Beaverton City Library.

Their will be contests (costume, ID the superhero, and more!), displays (we have lots of new manga & graphic novels!), a comic book swap (bring your excellent condition comics & swap 'em!), door prizes, a free comic to every teen, the Dark Side Troopers (a Star Wars costumed group from Portland), workshops, and giveaways (from Dark Horse, Bridge City Comics, & more!)

I'm dissapointed that this is only for teens. I wish these interests were more socially acceptable amongst the 20 something crowd, but I grow used to it everyday.
It is nice to see it encouraged in the teen bracket, because they have enough trouble getting art classes to be paid for in the public schools of our "art friendly" city. Lbraries seem to have that tendancy to pick up where the governments fail time, and time again.

IMO, a comix/manga group for all age grown-ups in PDX would be cool.

BTW, there is a big comix community on the net.
