Brief Report Back From Today's Immigrant Rights March

Just got back from the march and the world from the people counting heads at the march say there were about 2,200 to 2,500 people out in the streets of downtown p-town today. It was an awesome turn out to say for sure!
Just got back from the march and the world from the people counting heads at the march say there were about 2,200 to 2,500 people out in the streets of downtown p-town today. It was an awesome turn out to say for sure!

The march was mostly students and youth as young as two or three years old moving with the march on their parents shoulders. It may have been raining but that didn't seem to matter or have any effect at all. Everyone there was in high spirits and all the students who spoke were great! Not to mention the organizers who got everyone pumped up!

There were news papers, corporate news channels, helicopters, you name it, and of course indymedia. Lots of people also were cheering and clapping the people in the march as they walked past, others joined in all along the march route. The crowd was swelling up so large at times people would spill out from the streets onto the sidewalks!

The ongoing pressure that continues to mount against the U.S corporate government to drop these disgusting bills to outlaw working class people from being able to work in this country, live in this country, and raise their children in this country is turning heads. Brown, black, white, red, yellow, or even purple, take note. We are all one people, in one common struggle.

Today it was the youths turn to speak, and they did an amazing job. Keep it up!

No human is illegal!! Only the laws the violate our rights!!

How could you Forget the Police Presence? 14.Apr.2006 16:16

Joe Anybody

I stopped by briefly when the rally was going on in the park blocks off main street
I wish the speakers were louder it was hard to hear
There were lots of kids it looked like to me
I support them 100%

What I was worried about and didn't like was .....all the Police
Which the above article doesn't mention
I seen at least 20 cops there, mostly 1/2 a block away on all 4 corners
then they slowly moved-in and now all 2o some were literally in the crowd and right tight up close to the main body of protesters.
There were even a couple directly in the middle .....notice the BIG RED CANISTER on his leg from my picture
Most of the police I seen had these BIG MACE CANISTERS.
I thought Krooker was back when I seen all the police surrounding the rally, but this could just be "new chief" Rosie Sizer way of saying "I'm In Charge"
One cop had a black wool stocking 1/2 face mask
All these police........
It was intimidating to me, and I dont like it!
After about 10 minutes of being 'in close to the crowd' they mostly all seemed to back off to the 1/2 block away again......
And there was the 3 lone horse cops sitting back about 2 blocks waiting (hoofs-a-ready)
It was a peaceful event as far as I could see!
THE ONLY ONES LOOKING/READY FOR A FIGHT SEEMED TO BE THE POLICE?????
I really felt like something was going to happen.....but I had to leave

I hope nothing bad did happen. Power To the People
! PUT HUMANS FIRST !

The pictures are from a camera phone ...and not very detailed.
