For nearly a year, the group Save Cedar Mill has been fighting against a proposed Wal-Mart in our community. We have held rallies, held signs to raise awareness, raised thousands of dollars to finance independant surveys of traffic and community impact, written hundreds of letters, and now, we hope to pack full the Beaverton Council Chambers to show popular opposition to the proposed store. Here is an email sent around by the group leader, Steve Kaufman:

HEARING DATES SET!
Dear Save Cedar Mill member:
For more than a year, we've worked very hard together to prevent a proposed Wal-Mart from devastating our community. We've met, we've raised funds, and we've planned. The time has finally come to make your voice heard to the City of Beaverton!
The Board of Design Review public hearings have been scheduled for May 2 and May 3 at 6:30 PM. Currently, they are scheduled for the Beaverton City Council chambers. However, this may change if the City decides that it needs a larger facility to accommodate a larger crowd.
How can you help? There are three critical things you can do:
1. Write your letter! The deadline for sending in your letter is May 2. If you haven't written your letter, now is the time. If you need help getting started, please visit our website at www.SaveCedarMill.com.
2. Plan on attending the hearing. Mark your calendar now! We are striving for a huge turn-out to the hearing.
3. Tell at least two friends about Save Cedar Mill. Encourage them to write a letter and attend the hearing.
We will be hosting public events to raise awareness about the hearings. Watch for email announcements of these soon.
We will be canvassing door-to-door on Sunday, March 19. If you would like to volunteer for this (or any other Save Cedar Mill event), please reply to this email. Someone will contact you right away.
We have great confidence in the technical merits of our case. However, we also need to show overwhelming public opposition to this project. Writing a letter, attending the hearing, and inviting your friends and neighbors to do the same are the best ways you can help stop this store from destroying our community. Together, we can send a strong message to Beaverton at the public hearing: No Wal-Mart in Cedar Mill!
Best regards,
Steve Kaufman

Even if you do not live in Cedar Mill, I encourage you to come and join us in the fight against this community-destroying big box store. I'll let people know if there is any more news, and I hope to see you in your numbers on May 2nd and 3rd.
