'State of Emergency' demonstration
planned to coincide with
the 'State of the Union' speech.
On Tuesday the 31st of January there will be a public protestation of discontent over the "State of the Union." Citizens from Portland and across the nation will be voicing their concerns over President Bush's actions at home and abroad. In addition, they will be offering solutions to many of the very real problems that the President is unlikely to address in his speech to the nation.
The World Can't Wait campaign here in Portland will rally at Pioneer Square at 4:00pm on January 31st. Those in attendance will demonstrate to the citizens of Portland that our Nation is in a "state of Emergency." They will also demand that "BUSH STEP DOWN."
There will be a corresponding march on the Mall in Washington DC. It is expected to draw a good crowd, as it has twice been advertised as whole page ads in the New York Times and well as heavy advertisement on the Air America Network. It is endorsed by Reps. Maxine Waters and Major R. Owens.
Objective and open minded people have long ago found this President out. He has shamed the American people by fooling them into an immoral and un-winnable War. He continues to create poverty through "trickle down" economics that starve social services while feeding his already fat corporate constituency. All the while he continues to risk our children and grand children's future by cavalierly ignoring consensus scientific opinion about Global Climate Change and ecological collapse. Yet in spite of his disastrous track record, Bush remains in power.
The anti-war and progressive demographic that will be represented at these demonstrations is valuable to the Citizens of Portland and the Nation alike for their foresight and sacrifice. They have a proven track record on the Iraq Invasion which surpasses that of any pro-war voice.
