'State of Emergency' demonstration
planned to coincide with
the 'State of the Union' speech.

On Tuesday the 31st of January there will be a public protestation of discontent over the "State of the Union." Citizens from Portland and across the nation will be voicing their concerns over President Bush's actions at home and abroad. In addition, they will be offering solutions to many of the very real problems that the President is unlikely to address in his speech to the nation.

The World Can't Wait campaign here in Portland will rally at Pioneer Square at 4:00pm on January 31st. Those in attendance will demonstrate to the citizens of Portland that our Nation is in a "state of Emergency." They will also demand that "BUSH STEP DOWN."

There will be a corresponding march on the Mall in Washington DC. It is expected to draw a good crowd, as it has twice been advertised as whole page ads in the New York Times and well as heavy advertisement on the Air America Network. It is endorsed by Reps. Maxine Waters and Major R. Owens.

Objective and open minded people have long ago found this President out. He has shamed the American people by fooling them into an immoral and un-winnable War. He continues to create poverty through "trickle down" economics that starve social services while feeding his already fat corporate constituency. All the while he continues to risk our children and grand children's future by cavalierly ignoring consensus scientific opinion about Global Climate Change and ecological collapse. Yet in spite of his disastrous track record, Bush remains in power.

The anti-war and progressive demographic that will be represented at these demonstrations is valuable to the Citizens of Portland and the Nation alike for their foresight and sacrifice. They have a proven track record on the Iraq Invasion which surpasses that of any pro-war voice.

Hey. Let's try and make this one a big one. I hear that they are going to split us up into two marches for some reason, so let's NOT split ourselves up anymore by stopping at stop lights, starbucks, and such. We need to stick together and show our numbers. WE need to show Bush that Portlanders own Portland, not him and his cronies. We can do this if we shut this bitch down. WE gotta be loud and proud. Let's do the damn thing!

There are any number of groups that are in the midst of organizing events up through March 19th & beyond. They are all in touch with each other. That means, members of each group attend or keep in touch with the organizing and planning by members of the other groups. Catholic Worker, Veterans for Peace, Oregonians Against, Code Pink, Women in Black (w & w/o sparkles), Oregon Alliance, Jobs with Justice, etc. They are slowly getting used to the idea that they have things to contribute to and learn from each other. Not the World Can't Wait.

WTC sends press releases, and rousts a few captive LaRouche kiddies, and declares that the rev begins immediately behind the WCW banner. Gee. I bet all those other folks didn't know it was that easy.

"From Dictatorship to Democracy: A Conceptual Framework for Liberation" by Gene Sharp.

Gene Sharp is the founder of the Albert Einstein Institution in Boston. He is a scholar on non-violent change and democratic process. His book was used as the blue print to oust Slobodan Milosevic in Serbia. Otpor, one Serbian opposition group to Milosevic, would spray paint "memes" or planned slogans to generate an atmosphere of collective resistance to the dictator. Otpor also used the tactic of organizing a youth movement via concerts and mass community projects. With lots of finacial help from Soros György (George Soros) and using Gene Sharp's manual opposition in Georgia (the former Soviet Republic) launch the Rose Revolution in November 2003 after election fraud on November 2, 2003. Gene Sharp's book was used again after the fraudulent election in November 2004 by Ukrainian opposition parties against a fraudulent election that supported a Russian backed leader. The Ukrainian revolution was called the Orange Revolution (named for the opposition party color). Using Otpor's techneques from Gene Sharp's book as well as employeeing graffiti artists from their Slavic brethren Ukrainian opposition was armed to combat non-violently the dictatorship. The youth movement, Pora ("its time"), made use of graffiti, polls, memes, stickers, concerts and even composed music. A polling company was used to plant the idea of organized disfavour the Russian backed candidate with carefully worded questions. The book again has been used as a model for democratic process for ousting a dictator in what is generally named the Tulip Revolution in Kyrgyzstan during March of 2005.

'The National Endowment for Democracy, which this fiscal year got $60 million from the U.S. Congress, says it has decided to stop funding a
Kyrgyz NGO called Civil Society Against Corruption because of its
pronounced opposition bent. The Civil Society, which in 2003 received a
$25,000 NED grant, is headed by Tolekan Ismailova, a veteran Kyrgyz
human-rights campaigner and opposition activist. Earlier this month, she
organized the local translation and distribution of a 1993 revolutionary
manual used in Serbia, Ukraine and Georgia. The manual, "From Dictatorship to Democracy," was written by Gene Sharp, a political scientist and senior scholar at the Albert Einstein Institution in Boston. It includes tips on nonviolent resistance -- such as "display of flags and symbolic colors" -- and civil disobedience.'

Recently "From Dictatorship to Democracy" has been translated for the second time in to Farsi (Persian the dominant language of Iran). This book holds valuable inside to the student of geopolitics. I strongly recommend reading it as we watch democratic change happen across Eurasia, Africa and other places in the world.

The book is free online and has been featured on PBS as well.

The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America

When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. He has refuted his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.

He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.

He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.

He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their Public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.

He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.

He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected, whereby the Legislative Powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.

He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.

He has obstructed the Administration of Justice by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary Powers.

He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.

He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.

He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil Power.

He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:

In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.

Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our British brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our emigration and settlement here. Nick Vegan

Those of us that went to Lloyd Center were chased in the mall by police, that somehow found out we were headed there, and flushed out by security guards. Someone said that everyone was to meet at the something lab. What happened afterwards, I had to leave?

Thank you for helping us to put on a great event. In spite of cold, rain, and dissent,
in the end we brought our energy out to the neighborhoods of Portland. People all over this town were forced to make a decision. While they were watching King George on the Babblebox and were confronted with the raised voices of their neighbors, they had to decide whether to engage with their neighbors right outside their door, or turn their back on it and just go back to watching TV. The protestors down to the Sandpeople, danced, and shouted out to the camera. Thanks for returning it, by the way. Can't wait to check it out and put it up for download on EcoTV. And there were no arrests at all.

I hope to see lots of you at the open forum at Laughing Horse Books at 7PM.
