Portland author Doug Lain and Night Shade Books will celebrate the release of Lain's groundbreaking short story collection, "Last Week's Apocalypse." Publisher's Weekly has called it "an ambitiously postmodern book full of contemporary Winston Smiths." The event is also a fundraiser sponsored by Education Without Borders for Katrina victims. 100% of the proceeds from the book sales will go to the Books Not Bombs project for Katrina victims.
Featured speakers include Doug Lain, who will read selections from his book, Mike Hastie, a well known Vietnam Veteran for Peace, and activist photographer Bette Lee. Hastie and Lee will also be showing photographs of anti-war protests at Camp Casey and Washington, D.C. Benjamin Barnett, of the band "Kind of Like Spitting," will be performing.
The event takes place tomorrow, Jan. 28, at the Northwest Neighborhood Cultural Center, 1819 NW Everett, at 7 PM. Wine and beer will be flowing freely, and light refreshments will be provided. The event is free and all are welcome!
