Meanist Cities

The housing and homelessness crisis in the United States has worsened in 2005, with many cities reporting an increase in demands for emergency shelter.

The Meanest Cities

Although some of the report's top 20 meanest cities have made some efforts to address homelessness in their communities, the punitive practices highlighted in the report impede progress in solving the problem. The top 20 meanest cities were chosen based on the number of anti-homeless laws in the city, the enforcement of those laws and severities of penalties, the general political climate toward homeless people in the city, local advocate support for the meanest designation, the city's history of criminalization measures, and the existence of pending or recently enacted criminalization legislation in the city. Over the past year, the practices in the following top 5 meanest cities stand out as some of the worst examples of inhumane city treatment of homeless and poor people

Mean Cities 13.Jan.2006 22:18

RAT SOUP

No big surprise that just about all of these mean cities are in so-called "Red states".

Also, here is a bumpesticker idea: "Who would Jesus beat to death with a baseball bat?"

ARM the POOR!

Sophisticated Liberal Bashing Detected Here.......Operation Flowerchild? 13.Jan.2006 23:59

Disruptive Dave

What's the point of Kucinich bashing and then a list of cities who jackboot the homeless? This nation's anti-homeless problem began a long time ago......'cept back then, you could go on down the trail to the frontier. Who became homeless then? Indigenous people, African descendants, and itinerant immigrants have been bearing the brunt of this reactionary and puritannical society since Europeans landed.

Now we have Plymouth Dodge Caravans running right over the homeless, elders, children, bicyclists, and anything else in the way of these bogey latte-hunting, fundamentally sick rush-a-holics. These mind numbing unaware, don't care if your there, just get out of my way modern colonialists have the police defending their right to invade your life and your neighborhood (under a roof or not).

Add in: intentionally poisoned food, air and water, too many prescription drugs, cell phone, wi-fi, bluetooth, blackberry, and the addictions of your choice combined with the carefully computed and cultivated panic-stampede of corporate-capitalist competition; et voila!, look out the window of your house or cardboard box and whatta ya got?

The Homeless have been getting jacked for millenia. Now, this is our version. Face up to it and help each other. Ain't no one gonna solve it by writing reports. Yes! Start throwing money and precious resources at this problem! Start sharing and caring again and again and again. Everyday is another day you can be helping someone with their life. Do it yourself. Don't depend on the agencies to do it for you. Who gets the lion's share? Whomever the gift is given directly to. Give....Give....Give....

And, by the way, what's Kucinich got to do with homeless bashing anyway? Are you afraid he might actually be a political choice in the future? Are you afraid that people are waking up in this self-created nightmare and will choose a man who has fought the corporate structure in Ohio and won?

Are you mixing these two symbols to purposely create despair and hopelesness?

What is your point Citizen X by killing Kucinich's character.....come on now speak up!? Why have you mixed these two different ideas?

Distruptive Dave defends the daring do-gooders deftly denying the derisive dividers from dismantling democracy!

This report fron the National Coalition for the Homeless deserves our immediate attention and then action on whatever level of society you can create in. The cheap shot at a true American defender of genuine democratic ideals and principles deserves our utmost disdain.

Blessings be with the true American patriots who within the now viperous halls of our democracy stand alone untouched by this treachery.
May the truth of our times be unsealed and revealed for the common man to see and may good men and women everywhere rejoice in the upliftment of our most needing neighbors, friends, and loved ones.

There is an alternative to constant warring at every turn.......it is called Love! To give is to receive!

priest and nun costumes for the poor 14.Jan.2006 03:55

kirsten

I have often wondered what would happen if we just passed out nun and priest outfits to the poor and homeless. Would they be treated differently? I found as a street performer I was getting ticketed constantly, then I put on a nun's habit, and it was like a carte blanche. I was STUNNED what nuns can get away that normal people cannot. It would certainly confuse the middle class if nothing else if all those sleeping on the street were nuns and priests all of a sudden...

Not a bad idead Kirsten 14.Jan.2006 06:02

@

Here are some other uniforms that should be given to the homeless:

Police Uniforms
Fire-fighter Uniforms
U.S. Soldier Uniforms (Army, Airforce Navy)
Ultra-Orthodox Talmed Student Gear
Transportation Security Agency uniforms
Drug Enforcement Agency T-Shirts (Large letters "DEA")
U.S. Customs Uniforms
