Cascadia should seriouslt persue its independence following the example of the Constitutional and Democratic Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. We can make the Venezuelan Bolivarian Revolution a world-wide Bolivarian Revolution! In fact, it is already underway in many areas of Cascadia as collectives and co-ops are forming to help create a Democratic alternative to corporate neo-liberal globalization. The next step is forming International Bolivarian Circles in Cascadia and inviting as many co-ops as possible to become part of these.
The next step is to push for Cascadian independence. As an example, here is the website for the Cascadian National Party. They may, or may not embrace the idea of a Bolivarian Republic of Cascadia, but it is offered as an example.:
In Venezuela, to quote from an oil industry official in the article that follows,"The government's reaction to(contracts with multinational oil corporations), he said, is not to challenge them, much less expropriate them, but to form new co-ops doing the same functions, to out-compete the transnationals. These new co-ops are worker self-managed." It also shows how Venezuela is utilizing barter exchanges for goods, instead of extracting monetary payments in economic transactions and turning abandoned or non-productive factories over to worker owned co-ops. The point here is this, in Venezuela, as in many places already in Cascadia, the new (Democratic economy of co-ops) is arrizing in the midst of the old(neo-liberal globalized capitalism)). rather than confronting it head-on and in this way, displacing it. Instead of being rehashed "Communism" or even Marxism( despite President Hugo Chavez's friendship with Fidel Castro-they both understand their differences and allow each other to go their own way)the Bolivarian Revolution is what Mr. Chavez has dubbed "21st Century Socialism" which differs from old style Marxism markedly and even includes elements of Anarchism, as we see in the article.
For a Bolivarian Republic of Cascadia!
