Cascadia Discussion Forum

New online forum for discussion of Cascadia's culture, politics, geographic boundaries, and future.
I've created an online forum for Cascadians to discuss and imagine the future of our bioregion and the possibility of our independence from the United States. The forum will be lightly moderated - spam and some troll posts will be removed. Please come and add your ideas, energy, and input. Thank you.

Thanks for the reminder. I've posted the link to the other Cascadia Indymedia sites. Feel free to spread it more widely. :-)

I like the direction the forum is taking, even if the traffic is low right now. I agree with the idea of imagining a Cascadian culture as a good early step.

Another good early step would be to talk to the tribes and see what they think of the idea. It's their homeland.

I agree with loki 14.Nov.2005 18:56

heck

I think cascadia is a good idea. I also think that there needs to be public forums on independance. I think that respecting the earth should be the first goal of any nation. When species die the diversity that keeps micro-organizms from adapting to a us, and killing us dies. When bugs can adapt and live in micro-cosms of thier own they have bigger problems that adapting in order to compete for a diminishing set of hosts (animals and us.)

This is just one reason why radical steps should be taken for independance from the federalized system of ecocide and imperialism that america as a nation is based on. When we had a local meeting group of cascadians people promised to do a lot. When we all didn't deliver the work fell apart.

My personal opinion is that the "regionals" struggle is the struggle against imperialism. It is a struggle to gain local control of the land and resources and dramaticly change the way they are used. I don't think it's reasonable to expect that a broad base of people will support this effort without first building a broad movement against the imperialism or worst kinds of capitalism that face our varrying communities. This neccisitates a lot of work, and lot of training. If people are interested in doing this work, they should do it. If we're only interested in talking about it, nothing will happen.

to suceed we must seceed,

Every time I clink on any of the links on the discussion threads, I get a page with advertising on it. Absolutely no content. What gives?

Finally 19.Nov.2005 14:28

tired of negative energy

For once... people talking about something positive and different. Yes - I am a reformed former right winger. And this is the kind of thing - "how do we build something better"... that I have been looking out for quite a while now. Simply, thanks for your efforts.

Kwanesum Chinook Illahee 12.Jan.2006 06:28

Ecotopian Yeti

Kwanesum is the Chinook Jargon word for eternity, forever, long life or "viva"

Chinook Illahee is the Chinook Jargon word for "the land of the Chinook" and refered to both the speakers of Chinook Jargon and the land west of the Rockies.. what we call Cascadia today.

Chinook Jargon was (is) a language that was a merger of various Native American Indian languages along the northeastern Pacific coast with French, English, Chinese, Hawaiian, Scotish and other languages used by people that had an impact in the bioregion. Later Chinook Jargon would become the mother tongue of the Conferated Tribes of the Grande Rond as different tribes with different native languages were forced to live on a single reservation. The "Jargon" was used by miners and related workers headed for the Klondike gold rush and in many of the logging camps prior to modern forestry as well as in Union Halls as the language used to bring diverse groups together.

So "Kwanesum Chinook Illahee" or "Forever Cascadia"

Cascadian Doug Flag 24.Mar.2006 05:30

Doug

Our fellow Cascadian Collin during the winter holidays had a "Doug" or Cascadian flag made. Those are pictures of the Doug I posted in the photo section. If you are interested then contact the Texan company for a copy.

For those wanting a Cascadian local flag company there is smALL FLAGs in Oregon www.smallflags.com/BASE/About%20us.htm

For those wanted a more organic material made either contact small flags and inquire if it is possible for them or the BeeHive Collective ( www.beehivecollective.org/ ) and see if they can help with materials. I would also suggest starting several local flag making workshops (maybe Tryon Life Farm would be willing or one of the FreeSkools).

Who says we ain't movin'... we are movin'! Check it out! WE HAVE A FLAG!

Ok, cool, I had to get that off my chest. Anyway, if any of you would like a
flag
too let me know. Remember all, the more of you who say, "YES I WANT A
FLAG TOO" means we can get a bulk rate, which will make future productions
of "THE DOUG" cheaper. A and I found a flag maker in Salem, OR who is
waiting for us to make an order.
