"Redeeming Hope in Public Life"

A breakfast with Richard C. Harwood on (Re)Building Community Leadership in Portland and Across the Nation - I deeply regret I will miss this event, I hope someone will go and share the "Hope" with the rest of us.
REDEEMING HOPE IN PUBLIC LIFE: (RE)BUILDING COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP IN PORTLAND
AND ACROSS THE NATION

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 18th - 8:30 -10:00, Smith Student Building SMU 338 - PSU

Featuring: RICHARD C. HARWOOD
Author of Hope Unraveled: The People's Retreat and Our Way Back, and
President of the Harwood Institute for Public Innovation, Washington, D.C.

"The conventional wisdom driving today's politics and public life is dead
wrong," says Harwood after 15 years of research and work with dozens of
communities across America. His new book, /Hope Unraveled: The People's
Retreat and Our Way Back/, published in partnership with the Kettering
Foundation, lays bare the distorted realities of a nation divided. Harwood
can and will tell us things we NEED TO KNOW about revitalizing our culture
of engagement. Also in this discussion, Harwood will! :

-- Discuss his evolving national research agenda focusing on enhancing
community governance supported by Kettering and other national leaders.

-- Share insights from over two decades of community development work.

-- Interact with participants about how higher education, civic leaders, and
citizens can "find our way back" to building a strong democracy.

Light BREAKFAST will be provided, so please RSVP to CAE at 725-5642 or
 caestaff@pdx.edu.
