75,000 Body Bags Purchased For New Orleans

Questions mount over Hurricane Katrina's death count. Estimates are now well below 10,000 with the death toll currently standing at 648 for Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida. So, why did the Bush Administration order 75,000 body bags?
Questions mount over Hurricane Katrina's death count. Estimates are now well below 10,000 with the death toll currently standing at 648 for Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida. So, why did the Bush Administration order 75,000 body bags?

Along that line, other things don't add up. For instance, why did FEMA contact a crematorium in the local area; how could people identify their loved ones if only ashes remain? Why did FEMA rebuff efforts of volunteer morticians? Why did the feds try to ban reporters from covering the body recovery effort? Why have the feds employed mercenaries in New Orleans? Don't we have plenty of volunteers, police and military in the U.S. to get any job done that needs doing? What's really going on?

I don't know with any certainty, but here are some theories:

Maybe the Bush Administration doesn't want us to know how many people died because they just can't take the political heat for being completely incompetent. That's somewhat understandable. Maybe they ordered 75,000 body bags and hired Houston-based Blackwater mercenaries as more pork barrel projects. Nothing new there.

Or, maybe the feds want to hide bodies in an effort to grab land for their developer friends, or deny insurance claims for their friends in the insurance industry, as some people assert happened last year after Hurricane Charley in Florida. The Bush Administration can't count on the police or military to carry out their dirty work, so they use private security firms. That's in keeping with the Bush Administration's MO (modus operandi).

Or, maybe they don't want us to know exactly how some of these folks died. Maybe some New Orleans police did not abandon their stations. Maybe they were murdered while trying to protect their city. After all, Mayor Ray Negin made public statements saying, "The CIA might take me out". What was that all about? There are reports that there was a shoot-out between New Orleans police and contractors. And rumors are rampant that the 17th Street levee was bombed to protect the wealthier parts of New Orleans. Something along those lines occurred in the Great Flood of 1927.

In support of these theories, here are some news articles, opinions, and information:

April 1927: THE GREAT FLOOD OF 1927 --New Orleans dynamites Poydras levee -- The Great Flood, New Orleans -- "Communities on both sides of the river know that if the levee breaks on one side, the other side will be spared. Each side of the river fears sabotage, and sets up levee patrols to prevent intruders from dynamiting their levee. The patrols are prepared to shoot to kill.... National Guard is called in to patrol the refugee camps in Greenville. Word filters out of the camps that guardsmen are robbing, assaulting, raping and even murdering African Americans held on the levee. ...April 29: The torrent has moved south. With the river almost at the levee tops, New Orleans dynamites the Poydras levee, creating a 1500-foot break at an estimated cost of $2 million, to direct the flood waters away from the city and its half million inhabitants."

Aug 15, 2004: HURRICANE CHARLEY -- Did FEMA spirit away corpses in Florida? Michael Edward reports, "The mass media, in collusion with government and insurance companies, purposely under-report the death tolls. FEMA simply spirits away the corpses in body bags before relatives can get into the area to identify their deceased." ... "By 10:00 p.m. on Friday, August 13, both Washington City and Tallahassee knew of the real devastation and of the many hundreds of local EDS/EMS confirmed deaths in the wake of Hurricane Charley. As a part of the emergency S.O.P, specific MP (specialist) command units were sent to Charlotte County from Ft. Leonard Wood and Ft. Stewart, most arriving just before dawn on Saturday, August 14. Their specific orders were to secure all the mobile home parks from the local and State authorities, and to seal off these areas from all but "authorized" personnel. By the time JEB BUSH arrived on Saturday, this had been fully accomplished in both Charlotte and Desoto Counties. Every County Deputy, city Police Officer, and all other local Emergency Services personnel had been "relieved" from their mobile home park duties by the Military Police command and re-assigned to other areas. ...The second purpose was to carry out search, recovery, and transport operations by "authorized" Federal teams. While residents were kept off the public streets, perimeters were established and non-residents were denied entrance, the mobile home parks were lit up by Army field generator units, searched, and bodies recovered. Those bodies were then transported out of the area on I-75 in refrigerated trucks marked "Emergency Response Services" with magnetic signs on the doors."

Sept 7: 2005: HURRICANE KATRINA - The Great New Orleans Land Grab - "What is being implemented now is nothing less than a sophisticated scheme to purge and ethnically cleanse what Whites have termed "Black and 'welfare bloated' New Orleans"."

Sept 2: FEMA bars volunteer morticians from entering New Orleans

 link to www.zwire.com

Sept 5: FEMA contacts local crematorium -- Jacksonville Beach, Florida, First Coast News (ABC 25 and NBC 12) reported, "With the gruesome prospect of handling the disposition of as many as 10,000 bodies, FEMA is contacting local crematoriums" ... "The remains need to be taken care of professionally and swiftly," said Michael Shalz of the Quinn-Shalz Funeral Home in Jacksonville Beach." Although Shalz conceded the most relatives need time to identify the dead, he added, "...this would be an opportunity that could take care of the immediate needs, hopefully reduce any problems with public health." Who or what constitutes an immediate need?

Sept 9: FEMA orders 75,000 body bags --The Modesto (California) Bee (working with the Associated Press-AP) reported, "The federal government is trying to purchase an additional 50,000 body bags for use in the Hurricane Katrina cleanup and in Iraq, according to an official for a Modesto manufacturer. Previously, the Federal Emergency Management Administration purchased 25,000 body bags and shipped them to New Orleans."

Sept 11: U.S. can't ban media from New Orleans searches, judge orders - CNN filed suit for right to cover search for bodies of Katrina victims. CNN reported, "U.S. District Court Judge Keith Ellison issued a temporary restraining order Friday against a "zero access" policy announced earlier in the day by Army Lt. Gen. Russel Honore, who is overseeing the federal relief effort in the city, and Terry Ebbert, the city's homeland security director. In explaining the ban, Ebbert said, "we don't think that's proper" to let members of the media view the bodies....Rather than fight a lawsuit by CNN, the federal government abandoned its effort Saturday to prevent the media from reporting on the recovery of the dead in New Orleans."

Sept 10: Blackwater Mercenaries Deploy in New Orleans - Heavily armed paramilitary mercenaries from the (Houston-based) Blackwater private security firm, infamous for their work in Iraq, are openly patrolling the streets of New Orleans.  http://www.truthout.org/docs_2005/091005a.shtml Contractors 'Run Loose' in Iraq - Recent shootings of Iraqi civilians, allegedly involving the legion of U.S., British and other foreign security contractors operating in the country, are drawing increasing concern ... Their heavy presence stems in large part from the Pentagon's attempts to keep troop numbers down by privatizing jobs that would once have been performed by American forces.

Sept 11: Dead Contractors and Levee 'Explosives Residue' Story  http://www.rense.com/general67/exple.htm "NEW ORLEANS, La -- Divers inspecting the ruptured levee walls surrounding New Orleans found something that piqued their interest: Burn marks on underwater debris chunks from the broken levee wall. By Hal Turner 9-9-5"

Also see: An Associated Press report, which has now disappeared, stated that at least five USA Defense Department personnel where shot dead by New Orleans police officers in the proximity of the breached levee. Hal Turner is a Neo-Nazi 20.Sep.2005 23:58

Wild Green

Here is info on Hal Turner, one of your sources for the writing above.

From the One's People's Project:

NAME:Harold C. Turner
A/K/A:"Hal from North Bergen"

1906 Paterson Plank Rd. Unit A1 North Bergen, NJ (201)348-8449

If there is anyone who seemingly hates us (One People's Project) more than any chump we post here it is this guy. Hal Turner ran for the Republican nomination for Congress in 2000 in the 13th District in an attempt to unseat incumbent Bob Melendez. He was also the Campaign Chair for Murray Sabrin when he ran for NJ Governor in 1997. If Sabrin won his current bid for Senator, he said he wanted to pass the torch to him. Some of us were not too keen on that because we had flagged him as a racist trying to slip into the mainstream. We were right.

Turner was born at Christ Hospital in Jersey City, NJ in 1962. He lived in Union City until he was four when his family moved to Ridgefield Park in Bergen County. He graduated from Ridgefield Park High School in 1980 and while attending Bergen Community College in Paramus, worked as a truck driver the family moving and storage business. In 1986 he moved to Atlanta and became the Southeast US Regional Sales Manager for Global Van Lines. He moved back to New Jersey in 1990 to work for Roberts Express as a Divisional Sales Manager. Two years later he was at North American Van Lines as their Northeast Regional Saled Manager. By this time he had married his wife Phyllis and in 1994 they had a son named Michael. Eventually, Hal found himself in real estate, starting first with Sacks Realty in Jersey City and then later with Coldwell Banker as a agent for commercial properties.

Folks had been used to hearing his moniker "Hal from North Bergen" often on 77 WABC and other talk-radio stations in the New York City area. He was especially a staple, along with two others, John "from Staten Island" Van Soest and Frank "from Queens" Magnivito, on the show of racist talk-shit host Bob Grant. In 1995 Turner organized a rally at the New Jersey State Capitol to defend Grant from those who just about had enough of his crap. Nationalist Movement leader Richard Barrett also had a hand in putting this event together and noted on his web page that as they spoke, Turner and another right wing hack named Richard Pezzulo were cheered by the assembled, which included those that waved Barrett's Crosstar "battle flags." Turner has even warmed up to Grant's replacement at WABC, Sean Hannity. In August 1998 Turner called into Hannity's WABC show and said that if it weren't for the white man, that blacks "would still be swinging from the trees in Africa." This comment drew no rebuke from Hannity, himself a racial antagonist who even calls Turner at home and plugged his campaign on his show, but rather Hannity continued to race-bait with Turner around a number of political issues. In fact, Turner has said on his radio show, and to us that Hannity had become fast friends. Hannity even invited Turner to sit in on a taping on Hannity and Colmes. Turner told us, however that as Hannity star began to shine a bit more he stopped talking to Turner. One prominient African-American writer based in New York has never been invited to appear on Hannity and Colmes again after he made mention of his friendship with Turner on the air.

Turner also had a shortwave radio program with Van Soest that ran in the late 90s called "The Right Perspective". It was here where he had openly defended not only racial profiling but police brutality as well, saying that it is not done enough. If Turner won his bid for Congress, it would have been part of an agenda to help the South secede from the Union again. "The long-term objective, which troubles independent political observers, is to send enough party members to Congress to push for a separate Southern nation," he said on his June 25, 1999 radio program. "And I would say to all the people in the states that comprise the Old Confederacy: Save a spot for me! Because, baby, I will fight on your side to destabilize these evil Yankees. And I wanna live in the New South. The South will rise again and I'll be right there to live with ya."

The show Turner has now started in September 2000 is a shortwave radio program where he really began to creep out of his shell. When Aryan Nations was involved in the lawsuit filed by Morris Dees that year, in which they lost and wound up bankrupt, Turner was counted as an ally for the White Supremacist group. In fact, his show was advertised on the Aryan Nations website. He also has a website where once he decided to go after the New Black Panther Party in what has got to be the most boneheaded stunt ever. The site features pictures of blacks "gang-raping" a white girl, and Turner states that he has taken these pics from a New Black Panther Party Yahoo! Club page. While he is calling for the media to pick up this story and for law enforcement to step in and go after the Panthers, nothing of the sort has happened. In fact, the validity of Turner's assertions is being questioned because at the time the Panthers have shunned putting up a page of their own, let alone set up one on Yahoo! Furthermore, the pictures turned out to be from an adult website, and when one visited the alleged Panther website other, more explicit pictures not involving rape were also posted. Nothing else ever came from this, and a lot of people started to look at Turner with a cautious eye.

Turner BS is all over the web and it pretty much damns him as the racist he once tried to deny he was. In one instance he has threatened to incite people to "dispense revenge" on Federal Judge Maryanne Trump Barry and New Jersey NAACP officials and their attorneys after a fire in North Bergen claimed the lives of four people in 1998. Turner charged the NAACP with the deaths because they filed an anti-discrimination lawsuit against the local fire department. Barry was the judge who presided and imposed a hiring freeze on the department until the matter was resolved. After the fire, Turner, a real estate agent with access to the names and addresses of virtually everyone who lives in the state, wrote a letter that appeared on deja.com (now Google) that said that he was going to release the names and addresses of Barry, the NAACP officials, and their lawyers to the families of the fire victims. "It would be interesting to see how those families dispense revenge on those who are really responsible for the deaths of their loved ones, he wrote." Turner was only recently called on the threat by the Daily Targum, the Rutgers University student newspaper, and stood by the letter.

Since then, Turner lost his job as a realtor at Coldwell Banker after someone called the company with a complaint that he communicated a threat in which he indicated he would use his resources at the real estate firm. He had since been courting white supremacists on a full time basis. His radio show has features some of the more notable fascists in America, and he has started a network which hosts a radio show for Aryan Nations and supposedly another for his friends Van Soest and Magnivito. Turner has also been seen at a recent National Alliance meeting in Elmwood Park, NJ. Meanwhile websites that link to his radio show have been feeling the pinch from some other more conservative site that they have associated with. Freak Republic has pulled a link to a website that listed radio programs, and had included Turner's. His old friend, Murray Sabrin, who is Jewish, must be proud, not to mention the parishoners at St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church on Kennedy Blvd. in Jersey City where his family attended.

In 2003, Turner's hatemongering became more public. He had been featured in newspaper articles and had organized a rally to counter the Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride when it made a stop in Liberty State Park in Jersey City, NJ. He also made the Southern Poverty Law Center's Intelligence Report as one of 40 hatemongers to watch. In the SPLC profile of him, they noted an alleged "illness" that he told listeners to his radio show he was suffering from. This has always raised an eyebrow with people because he would never tell anyone what the illness was, even when he was supposed to have gone to the hospital after suffering a heart attack. SPLC noted that his sickness always seemed to worsen when bills would come due. That would connect another staple in his M.O.: begging his supporters for money to keep his radio show going, fund his IWFR counter-rally, etc. In truth, those who give him money may not be helping his projects along, but rather a very healthy cocaine habit. Turner once alluded to a cocaine problem in the past, well before he became a darling of Nazism, in AOL chat rooms, where he would talk of not only a coke habit, but also having a few homosexual liaisons in his younger days. The liaisons we have never been able to confirm, but his coke habit has become notorious as hell among his new circles. Turner is often seen with fellow North Bergen resident New Jersey Aryan Nations head and reputed drug dealer James Mazzone (a/k/a James McManus). One time they were not together was reportedly on the trip to the 2003 Aryan Nations World Congress in Hayden, Idaho. Turner was supposed to travel with Mazzone, but was allegedly too high and paranoid to make the trip until the next day. This is not the only time his drug habit has caused embarrassment. According to some reports, the heart attack that he was supposed to have suffered was either coke-induced, or a full on overdose. What's more this was supposed to have happened at Mazzone's home, who is reportedly out on bond as he faces drug charges. If all this is true, this would explain the rather odd pattern of behavior that Turner is known for, and it would also make him a risk to anyone around him.

On May 31, 2004, Turner shut down his site and radio program, and said he was out of the WP game. On Nov. 16, he came back, only without the radio show. His website is back online and he is still talking shit.

The Host of Hate
Harold C. Turner, 41 | NORTH BERGEN, N.J.

Just when some thought that the modern white supremacist movement had adopted the calmer language of scientific racism, along came Hal Turner. A belligerent, foul-mouthed talk show host, Turner is the maestro of radio hate a man who rants about a "Portable Nigger Lyncher" machine, "faggots," "savage Negro beasts," "bull-dyke lesbians" and "lazy-ass Latinos ... slithering across the border." And that is just the beginning.

According to a profile in his local newspaper, The (Bergen County, N.J.) Record, Turner was born in Jersey City and raised in Ridgefield Park. He served a 10-month stint in the Marines, was honorably discharged, and went to work as a driver and sales manager for a moving company. Later, he sold commercial property.

Turner got involved in politics as well, serving as a Republican committeeman in Hudson County, the North Jersey coordinator for white nationalist Pat Buchanan's 1992 presidential campaign, and manager of the 1997 gubernatorial campaign of Libertarian Murray Sabrin.

As early as 1994, he was defending racism, holding a rally for New York radio talk show host Bob Grant, who had been fired from his show for making racist comments about blacks. In the late 1990s, Turner often called in to local radio shows as "Hal from North Bergen," telling their hosts things like, "The problem with police brutality is that cops don't use it enough."

In 2000, Turner sought the local Republican nomination for Congress, and was enraged when GOP leaders instead supported Theresa de Leon, a dark-skinned Hispanic who was the chief financial officer for New York's Legal Aid Society and the mother of 10 children. It was at this moment that Turner had a reported "epiphany," deciding the system was rigged against white men and abandoning all ties to the mainstream.

Not long after, he started up "The Hal Turner Show," renting time on shortwave radio maverick Allan Weiner's WBCQ, located in Monticello, Maine.

Building up a substantial audience and paying for the five-nights-a-week, two-hour show with advertising and donations, he became a favorite of many on the radical right, including several in the neo-Nazi National Alliance*. After neo-Nazi World Church of the Creator* leader Matt Hale was arrested in late 2002 for allegedly soliciting the murder of a federal judge, Turner openly supported Hale.

"I don't think killing a federal judge in these circumstances would be wrong," he said, referring to the judge's ruling against Hale's group in a copyright dispute over its name. "It may be illegal, but it wouldn't be wrong."

Early in 2003, Turner told The Record, federal agents from the Secret Service and the U.S. Marshals Service questioned him about statements made on the air. Also in early 2003, Turner joined a neo-Nazi rally held in front of the Southern Poverty Law Center. In June, he was at the Aryan Nations* World Congress in Idaho, where rainy weather prevented his planned outdoor on-site broadcasts.

In recent months, however, Turner has repeatedly told his listeners he was gravely ill and begged for donations to pay his creditors. But he has never said what his disease was, and his many skeptics have noted that his "illness" seems to worsen when bills come due at month's end.

A Frightened Little Girl 20.Jun.2007 12:14

C. Nasrallah

I once lived at 1906 Paterson Plank Rd. In fact my apartment was right next door to Hal Turner. I may have been 7 years old at the time but I will never forget the fear I had of leaving my front door. Hal Turner is an unstable man. Over the years, my family and I have not been surprised of the conflicts he has caused in this town.

Hal Turner is just a small man bored and disappointed with his life. He places these burdens with his own immediate family who I pray for still 16 years later. I am discusted that this man has gotten the attention that he has. North Bergen is too good of a town than to let this sad man even be heard.
