Benefits for Hurricane Katrina victims in Portland and Seattle!
Major Benefit Concert for Victims of Hurricane Katrina

Portland’s Hip Hop Community Gets Involved

Press Conference Being Held Wednesday at Noon

PORTLAND--In response to the recent catastrophic fallout from Hurricane Katrina, local activists, Hip Hop/Spoken Word artists and community leaders will convene on Wednesday, September 7th at 12:00 p.m. (noon) outside the Oregon Convention Center (777 NE MKL, Jr. Blvd.) in front of the MLK statue for a press conference to announce the upcoming benefit concert for the survivors.

Invited speakers include: Cool Nutz, Wimbly Muhammad, Turiya, Vursatyl of Lifesavas, Opio Sokoni, Charles McGee, Renee Mitchell, MicCrenshaw, Rodeezy, BMIT, High Steppers, Rica Brooks (Les Femmes) and community leaders. The same named will perform and/or speak at the heavily anticipated benefit concert.

The concert is scheduled for Sunday, September 25th, at the Roseland Theater (8 NW 6th Ave), 5:00 p.m. to 12:00 (midnight). Admission is free. However, donations are encouraged ($1 to $1,000+). Proceeds (100%) from the concert will be directed locally to support efforts currently underway to assist dislocated families and individuals residing in the Portland metro area.

“This is about the Hip Hop community stepping up to show our support and love to the survivors of this tragedy,” stated Terrence Scott (aka Cool Nutz) local artist and event organizer. The event will be hosted by Opio Sokoni (KBMS Radio), Star Child (95.5), DJ Audio (KBOO), D Rock (My City TV) and Drea Drea.

The concert will also serve as a venue to inform and involve our youths and other segments of the community that are often overlooked when searching for solutions from the community.

For more information about this event as well as other relief events contact Opio Sokoni at (360) 241-1414 or via email at  kbms@mediumnews.net .
