A brief report and some photos from today's action.
The security guard (blue shirt) was overheard saying "it's getting bad"
The skit involved 3 "Wonder Women" doing battle with Wal-Mart
Guess who won?
Wal-Mart provides less than half of its employees with health care coverage
At first security was pretty heavy-handed, but then they backed off
The banner is unfurled!
Always low standards, always low pay
Slowly walking out...
While some custoomers were receptive, some were not
The No War Drum Corps joined us in front of the store
Marching through the parking lot
Heading out to 82nd, to join the picket line
Megan does the Jobs with Justice pledge pitch
The Wonder Women go after Wal-Mart again
Jeff Anderson, from UFCW local 555, addresses the crowd
Conga Line!
Lots of people driving by honked in support
About 40 women (and a few men) took over Wal-Mart for a brief time this afternoon to dramatize the unfair working conditions at Wal-Mart stores and at the sweatshops where Wal-Mart gets much of its goods.
...when the WalMart security guy grabbed Wonder Woman #1 by her arm and ripped the script partly out of her hand. Luckily she is a tough woman who responded with an immediate "Get your %%%%ing hands off me!". And he did, clearly overwhelmed and feeling foolish that the bunch of (mostly) mild mannered older women "shopping" in his store turned out to be something far more than he anticipated.
Love that No War Drum Corps too.
