From: Commissioner Adams
Subject: Open Letter to Wal-Mart President
Date: Thu, 9 Jun 2005

Dear Neighbors:

It has come to my attention that Wal-Mart is planning its first Supercenter
in Portland. Plans call for it to be located at SE McLoughlin Boulevard and
Tacoma Street. I've attached a copy of the letter I've sent today to Lee
Scott, CEO of Wal-Mart stating my strong opposition.

Sincerely,
Sam

I'm in for the fight. That intersection isn't designed for that kind of traffic. Isn't it also in the Johnson Creek watershed?

Sounds like its right near where the old Goodwill Bins used to be. (Thats the one where you can get cast-off merchandise by the pound.) Wonder if they're thinkin about using that same site...

The largest lot in that area is 8300 SE MCLOUGHLIN BLVD which was the site of the old goodwil bins store. It's 7.77 acres or 338,461 sq ft. I don't see any permit activity other than the demolition permits last fall and a new pluming permit to cap a sewer line.

From what I can see on Portlandmaps.com it's the only site in that area they would be able to look at (size wise) and it has access to both McLoughlin traffic and a ramp from Tacoma in the back...
