Leela Fernandes will be giving a talk titled "Beyond the Crisis of Secularism: Feminism, Spirituality and Social Transformation" at the University of Oregon Thursday May 26 in 110 Fenton Hall at 4:00p.
Leela Fernandes is Associate Professor of Political Science at Rutgers University - New Brunswick. She is the author of two books, Producing Workers: The Politics of Gender, Class and Culture in the Calcutta Jute Mills and Transforming Feminist Practice: Non-violence, Social Justice and the Possibilities of a Spiritualized Feminism. She is currently completing a book on "The Rise of the new Middle Class: Culture, Democracy and the Politics of Economic Reform." In addition, she has published over a dozen articles in the fields of labor politics/urban studies, gender studies, cultural politics and South Asian studies and is currently beginning work on a book on religion and politics in comparative perspective.
