Dems compromise -- three terrible judges

According to Yahoo News (just half an hour ago) -- the "nuclear option" thing has been avoided by a deal cooked up between 7 "moderate" Dems and 7 "moderate" Repugs to avoid the rule change that would end all filibusters.

"Under the terms, Democrats agreed to allow final confirmation votes for Priscilla Owen, Janice Rogers Brown and William Pryor, named to appeals court seats."

What a farce!
Well, okay, I guess that 7 of each party is just enough to mean that the only way the Dems could go would be to say, let the filibuster go! We ain't gonna do it! Because the Repug leaders would definitely have not just 51 votes but 55 + 7 = 62 votes and then they could do whatever they wanted to.

I wish the Dems wudda said: "We approved over 200 lousy nominees and we're done compromising. Then let the filibuster go! Let the two-party system go!"
Everybody's pissed! 23.May.2005 19:35

Me too

At the "conservative" website, FreeRepublic.com, people are seething with anger at the Republicans in the Senate who made this happen. They aren't even pausing to blame the Dems.

Somebody named "Pukin Dog" for instance says:

"I know that many of us are looking for something good in what happened tonight. Sadly, an honest assessment will result in a single conclusion, that tonight the Republican Senate failed the nation, in order to protect themselves from having to take a vote that would determine the future Presidential ambitions of some Senators. Do not blame the 12 moderates, because we already knew that they could not be trusted. Do not blame the President, and tonight, you cannot even blame the Democrats. Their side did their job."

I guess that depends on what you think the Dems' job is!

Another poster said: "I just left the GoP. I'm done with them. Cowards."

Democrats don't seen to be saying much about it. I guess they're smug and figure they can look like winners coming out of this.

But I think that Democrats like Boxer and Kennedy and Feingold have been sold out by a few double-dealing "moderates"! For sure, as usual, the people have been sold out.

Too many of Bush's nominees have been approved already. Deserve a "up or down vote"? NONE of these nominees deserved anything but a down and dirty NO vote. Most of them are already judges somewhere, like in state courts in Texas and California, and they should be impeached in those states!

gotta luv 'em demorats 23.May.2005 19:43

The 14 Senators who forged the compromise included: on the Republican side, Mr. McCain, Mr. Graham, John Warner, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, Mike DeWine and Lincoln Chafee, and on the Democratic side: Mr. Lieberman, Mr. Byrd, Ben Nelson, Mary Landrieu, Daniel Inouye, Mark Pryor and Ken Salazar.

careerists seeking self-promotion 23.May.2005 20:19

democracy dies with thunderous applause

The Rs & the Ds briefly compared

The Republican Party has historically acted as the open advocate for a platform which benefits the rule of wealth and corporate domination. They argue ideologically for policies benefiting the corporate rulers. The Republicans seek to convince the middle classes and labor to support the rule of the wealthy with the argument that "What's good for General Motors is good for the country," that what benefits corporations is also going to benefit regular people.

The Democratic Party is different. They act as a "broker" negotiating and selling influence among broad layers of the people to support the objectives of corporate rule. The Democratic Party's core group of elected officials is rooted in careerists seeking self-promotion by offering to the corporate rulers their ability to control and deliver mass support. And to the people they offer some concessions, modifications on the platform of the Republican Party. One important value of the Democratic Party to the corporate world is that it makes the Republican Party possible through the maintenance of the stability that is essential for "business as usual." It does this by preventing a genuine mass opposition from developing. Together the two parties offer one of the best frameworks possible with which to rule a people that otherwise would begin to move society towards the rule of the people (i.e. democracy).

An example of this process is our minimum-wage laws. Adjusted for inflation, the minimum wage has been gradually declining for years. Every now and then the Democrats pass a small upward adjustment that allows the downward trend to continue, but gives the appearance that they are on the side of the poor.

One Senator 23.May.2005 21:12

Nuke before Owen!

Senator Russ Feingold of Wisconsin, the leading or only progressive in the Senate, has made a statement on this happening:

"This is not a good deal for the U.S. Senate or for the American people. Democrats should have stood together firmly against the bullying tactics of the Republican leadership abusing their power as they control both houses of Congress and the White House. Confirming unacceptable judicial nominations is simply a green light for the Bush administration to send more nominees who lack the judicial temperament or record to serve in these lifetime positions."

Too many of Bush's nominees have been approved already. Deserve a "up or down vote"? NONE of these nominees deserved anything but a down and dirty NO vote. Most of them are already judges somewhere, like in state courts in Texas and California, and they should be impeached in those states!

Why Don't They... 23.May.2005 21:51

Wallowed

...just make Lieberman the Party Chairman, and be done with it?

question? 24.May.2005 01:25

proud not to be either corporate party

This is an "either or" and most likely a little of both question.

Do you think that the democrats are spineless corporate whores or that Karl Rove has pictures and smut on all of them?

Gannon and David Wu with a 13 year old?

Wyden licking what?

Kerry is not just called a "bonesman" because of his "membership" with a bunch of drunken rich brats.

Everyday is doggycrat training day 24.May.2005 02:46

a nice hue of green

Wow look at those well groomed doggycrats. They do tricks too. A neocon master need only say the command phrase "nuclear option" and the doggycrats roll over and play dead. I have heard that the secret is that the neocon masters have to act like the alpha male which means they even (censored) up the doggycrats' (censored) once a day. As Tom Delay mentioned in 'Modern Hitler Youth Magazine', "yeah, we normally urinated on the new doggycrats the first week they are in office so that they know they are our bitches". In a special addition of 'Neo-Fascists in Leather' Jeff Gannon interviewed Karl Rove about how to properly train doggycrats "Well you see, honey, I am a bottom normally, but when it comes to doggycrats well I usually just make sure I show them I am boss". Ann Coulter recently admitted in her auto-biography, 'The Ann Coulter Story: How I found Jesus and had his shot for treason', "When I would eat with my doggycrat I never let him eat on the table, but sometimes just for kicks I would have him stand over his cute little doggycrat dish poised in attention mode for hours with the dish full of fresh minced Iraqi flesh and intestines. Just for kicks you know. Hell they were not Christians until the last moment of life when the confessed. Damn Iraqi heathens." In Alberto Gonzales' award winning documentary on his life story Alberto confesses "I just loved the way doggycrats would first squeal as we probed them... I mean PROBED them... After several harsh beating they became quite the attraction at the White House pool and trust me they will do anything to avoid the whip at first. Then after a few months I could see in their eyes that they started loving it or at least I do. ha ha ha." Yes so you heard it first on how to properly train your doggycrat. And remember if you doggycrat does a doggycrat doo doo in your yard just rub his nose in it. He will be better off and will learn to love it.

Remember kids everyday is spay-neuter day when it comes to doggycrats.
