New Study Of US Media Pro-Israel/Zionist Bias is Out

study of the Times has generated considerable controversy, with New York Times Public Editor Dan Okrent's column in the paper last Sunday referring readers to the organization's website --  http://www.ifamericansknew.org -- to look into the matter for themselves.

The new study to be released on Monday analyzes two-years of coverage on ABC, CBS, and NBC evening news programs. In addition, the report will contain previously unreleased information regarding Associated Press coverage of this conflict.

If Americans Knew Executive Director Alison Weir, who will be presenting the findings, says that these reports should serve as a wake-up call to the American public. "By looking at this coverage statistically, choosing clear, objective categories, we have found an extremely useful, non-subjective tool for measuring the accuracy of media coverage on this extremely important issue. Our findings are highly disturbing. Full and fair reporting on the Israel-Palestine conflict and the ongoing peace process is absolutely necessary if the United States is to act as an honest broker

WHEN: Monday, May 9, 10 a.m.m-12 noon

WHERE: Rayburn House Office Building Room 2226, Washington, DC

An explosive new study of American television coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict will be released at a Capitol Hill briefing on Monday, May 9. The study is a follow-up to a similar report released two weeks ago on The New York Times, which found the Times reported Israeli deaths at rates up to seven to ten times greater than Palestinian fatalities.

The studies are produced by If Americans Knew, a California nonprofit media watchdog organization. Its study of the Times has generated considerable controversy, with New York Times Public Editor Dan Okrent's column in the paper last Sunday referring readers to the organization's website --  http://www.ifamericansknew.org -- to look into the matter for themselves.

Ambassador Edward Peck, former chief of mission to Iraq, will introduce the briefing, the 11th in the series of public hearings on the Middle East sponsored by the Council for the National Interest in the last year.

Measuring "free press" 08.May.2005 06:23

Mike stepbystpefarm <a> mtdata.com

Well it depends upon your definition of "free press" doesn't it.

For example, this article discusses "fairness" in reporting. Now is a requirement of a "free press" that it be FAIR? That it give equal time to other people's version of the truth? I guess that means if "The Daily Worker" is required to give equal space to the capitalist point of view we have a freer press. Or is what we mean by a "free press" that anybody is allowed to publish THEIR version of truth, without interference or application of standards of "official truth".

The article argues that our media is mnot "free" because too many "Zionists" are out there epxressing THEIR version of truth. But funny, I don't seem to have noticed any charges that the "Zionists" were doing anything to PREVENT anybody else from publishing "truth". I would say that if you want other versions of "truth" published, then get out there and publish this "truth" yourself. Object to lack of "freedom of the press" if your are being prevented from doing so and not just because you can't find existing publishers who are interested in doing so.

I mean after all, "The New York Times" being criticised for being too pro-"Zionist". Ask yourself, what city is this a paper of? What percentage of NYT subscribers are "Zionists"? What would you expect these subscribers to want to see covered? How?

Free Press being fair as a 'requirement'? 08.May.2005 15:19

Power Trip

No, a free press is under no such "requirement" to be fair, it is a matter of ethics and telling ones readers the truth rather than playing to a select racism of a certain audience. If it were a "requirement" to be fair, the mainstream media would have a hard time selling out to the drug companies, etc., like they do every day. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the bias of the US news media being pointed out, not required, but very, very necessary!

How can anyone doubt the obvious bias 08.May.2005 18:26

The amount of atrocities committed by Israelis are NEVER reported by the US main stream media. If an Arab/Muslim as much as coughs, it's headline news. The 16,000 Egypyians, executed by Israel, who's bodies were found in a mass grave recently, was not reported in any paper or television. The Israelis captured setting up fake "Al Qaeda" cells in Palestine were never reported to Americans. It seems the bias US media's only agenda is to report "Arabs/Muslims are bad and Israelis/Jews are good".

That little sh!t country called Israel

CHECK IT OUT ON TODAY"S WRH-best informative site-not a bit jewish zionist
****************************************************************************Quote
Through months of revelations about US torture of Arabs at Abu Ghraib, it took a microscope to find any comment on it at World Net Daily. Now, convicted traitor Jonathan Pollard is, after 20 years, claiming that HE was tortured and World Net Daily gives it full play, without a single shred of proof, and tries to portray a convicted spy who stole US nuclear secrets that Israel in turn gave to the USSR, as a sympathetic figure!
The absolute nadir of this story is the comment "There is an obligation to have a different approach to spies for friendly countries." No, there isn't. A spy is a spy is a spy. The US nuclear deterrent cost the taxpayers $5 trillion dollars (60s and 70s dollars), and Pollard totally undermined that deterrent.

Secondly, Israel is not a "friendly country". Friends don't trick friends into fighting wars for them. Friends don't lie at every opportunity. Friends don't terrorize critics and try to undermine the principles of free speech held dear in that friend's country. Friends don't try to sink US ship and then blame it on Arabs. Friends don't plant radio transmitters in third nations to trick that friend into bombing innocent people. Friends don't lie. Friends don't suck billions of dollars out of a friend's economy when that economy is struggling. Friends don't then take that money and use it to bribe the Congress to send yet more money.

Israel is not a friend to the US because they do not act like one.

It is time to take Bush's statement, "you are either with us, or against us", and apply it to World Net Daily. Either they are with the US, or with a foreign government. And from this article, it is clear that World Net Daily is indeed operating as the instrument of a foreign government.

Tellin' it like it is! 08.May.2005 20:26

IsraOil seems to have misconstrued my previous comment, I was on his side, read it a bit more carefully. I could have phrased it a bit better I admit. Ranting and swearing in some of these other posts doesn't help matters much, and is unnecessary when the truth is on your side. My point was that yes, the media can be biased if they want, but we can point that bias out. The bias in the media in favor of Israel is very obvious to those of us that think, but it is amazing how many people do not. There are decades of the media brainwashing people into looking at Muslim's and Arab's as bad, in fact most people to this day believe that all Muslims are Arab and wear turbins, etc.. This would not be the case if the Muslim world were treated with any kind of respect from the organized US media. However, this is rapidly changing as noted by today's Ha'aretz newspaper that Israel is engaging in a PR campaign to try and improve Israel's image abroad, and this they feel is needed despite the media in their pocket! Also, in Europe a poll was done by the UN itself that showed Israel, in the minds of the more informed European people, as the country most dangerous to world peace, it was 58% if memory serves, with the US coming in a strong second, yet the US media always refers to Israel as the victims with the usual "Israel responded today to blah,blah,blah...". Watching the US media would lead one to the conclusion that the Palestinians have never responded to anything, only Israel responds. The specific examples of bias are way to numerous to mention. On any given day Israel kills Palestinians, but the US pretend news doesn't even mention the vast majority of them, even when they do it's almost always with some lies attached, it seems that every Palestinian killed is to be labeled a "gunman", "militant", usually a "leading militant" or "suicide bomber planning...". The justifications used in attempts to make the killing of children seem OK would be absurd in the extreme in any other country such as "throwing rocks" or "a stray bullet hit the girl while eating dinner at her kitchen table in her home...". I just wanted to clear that up.

Zionist and Jews is there a difference? 09.May.2005 12:07

Rsqsrvs

I do believe there is enough credible evidence to show that there is quite a difference between the two. 1. Zionist do not represent the Jewish Law of the Old Testament to wait on the Moshiac to arrive before establishing the homeland. 2. The Jewish people were to remain in exile till this event. 3 The True Tora Jews have made it very apparent that the Governement of IS-RA-EL is illegal under G-Ds Law.

The People Masquerading as jews are not true jews but Citizens of Babylon That is why the IS-Ra-Eli Flag is designed with two stripes representing the Tigris and the Uphraitis rivers with the Star representing Babylon.

Stop confussing the two.
