WOMEN'S RESISTANCE TO BISCUIT FOREST DESTRUCTION: PART II

"SISTERS OF THE SISKIYOU" S.O.S.WOMEN'S RESISTANCE TO BISCUIT FOREST DESTRUCTION: PART II

MONDAY, MAY 16 - Women of all ages & demographics: Been wanting to step up? Now's the time!!

With dignity and honor, twenty-two women were arrested last March 14, mostly for sitting down on the 'Green Bridge' over the Wild & Scenic Illinois River: blocking loggersp access to Fiddler Mountain. We captured Americaps imagination for a moment, but alas, logging still persists!! So gals, dust it off and come on down for some serious forest funäand resist the destruction to our last public wild places by the Bush Forest Service. This time, the women will wear green.

Women we've been talking with have authorized us to announce that this rallywill be held close to where they feel wrongly and unconstitutionallywithheld from access to their public forest lands. The women, as well astheir friends, families and other supporters are making beautiful plans;soft, yet strong, elegant and provocative...is what we are hearing aboutthis rally for Monday morning on the 16th. Women, alot of them, are dismayedat being blocked from their public lands -- but are joyful to learn that"Siskiyou Sisters" from Calif and up north in Oregon are planning to join us!

We are also deeply dismayed - but not even close to bowed - over the Bushdecision today to open nearly a third of all remote national forest land toroad building, logging, mining, etc. Citizens have had enough!!

In the event arrest were to occur in any one's future, trainings currentlyavailable include a formal "Know your Rights" workshop in Grants Pass on the12th. On the 15th at 2:00PM, there will be a non-violence workshop at theSelma community center, followed by a potluck at 5:00 and a council meetingat 6:00PM. Places to spend the night as well as great camping available.

A carpool to the Siskiyou's is being organized for the 15th -- In Portland Contact action--at--cascadiarising.org / 503-493-7495. Elsewhere, contact Wild Siskiyou Action -- 541-659-2682.

We've been doing ton's of trainings and meetings in Takilma, Selma, Grants Pass and Ashland. "Women Part Two" may feature alot more participants, and this event will again display our compelling and unique alliance; folks from multiple demographics and ages united in concern not only about lawless old-growth logging, but also our civil rights. Come one, come all, join the Sisters of the Siskiyou's, eh?!

Teaser to May 16th S.O.S. Challenge 12.May.2005 13:09

Annette

Hi All,

Remember last March 14th when 22 women we're arrested in the Siskiyou's for blocking loggers' access to Fiddler Mountain? Well, we're at it again. On Monday, May 16th, the "Sister's of the Siskiyou's" will weigh in on the unconstitutional road closure that currently blocks EVERYONE's access to our public lands.

In prelude to Monday's action, on Friday, May 13, at high noon, the "Sister's of the Siskiyou's" and friends will offer a "teaser" at the US Forest Service Office across from Alba Park in Medford. Anyone who can show up for an hour; come on, come on! It'll be Showtime in front of Scott Conroy's large office window!

With the timing, location and May 16th coming up, getting media on Friday the 13th is a sure bet, so please spread the good word...and join us! Car pools available, call numbers on attached flyer. If you wear black, we'll decorate you with yellow stripes...we'll be doing "road closure humor". Joan Norman will be sitting in her lawn chair holding a big STOP sign..."Smokey the Log" will also be there, and a few o2collective folks on stilts...don't hold back, bring your music, drums, signs, costumes, puppets & loving energy for the trees!

Remember, Friday is a warm-up for:MONDAY MAY 16: Sister's of the Siskiyou's (S.O.S.) Part Two; which will take place at the closure boundary of the Fiddler sale. Logging trucks are barreling down 8 dollar mountain road every three minutes, it'll be interesting. Folks will gather at the intersection of hwy 199 and 8 dollar road (between Selma and Cave Junction) starting at 9:00 am. (see attached flyer) Again, the road closure is unconstitutional, and we'll be making a fuss about that! Want to participate? Come to Selma Center on 199 in Selma, Sunday at 2:00 PM for non-violence discussions, radical cheerleading practice, then potluck &council meeting. Women participants and their supporters are welcome to spend the night at Selma Center, bring your own bedding. Or park at Selma community center between 8 & 9 AM on Monday morning and we'll be shuttling folks over...there is also limited parking available close to the road closure up eight dollar road about 3/4 of a mile.

For the most part, no one has been getting arrested at these actions who didn't want to, so don't worry about participation. Supporters and observers are critical! Remember, largest logging sale in modern F.S. history...

...for the voiceless, annette
