"Even joking about shooting the president is a crime" - Some democracy?

Bush's fascist SS is investigating Air America.
Check out this:

The red-hot rhetoric over Social Security on liberal talkradio network AIR AMERICA has caught the attention of the Secret Service, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

Government officials are reviewing a skit which aired on the network Monday evening -- a skit featuring an apparent gunshot warning to the president!

The announcer: "A spoiled child is telling us our Social Security isn't safe anymore, so he is going to fix it for us. Well, here's your answer, you ungrateful whelp: [audio sound of 4 gunshots being fired.] Just try it, you little bastard. [audio of gun being cocked]."

The audio production at the center of the controversy aired during opening minutes of The Randi Rhodes Show.

"What is with all the killing?" Rhodes said, laughing, after the clip aired.

"Even joking about shooting the president is a crime, let alone doing it on national radio... we are taking this very seriously," a government source explained.

White House Spokesman Scott McClellan called the clip "very inappropriate and over the line."

AIR AMERICA President of Programming and co-COO Jon Sinton said in a release: "We regret that a produced comedy bit that was in bad taste slipped through our normal vetting process. We do acknowledge that it was an internal error and internal discipline will be enforced."

Rhodes apologized for the skit on her show today. "It was a bit," Rhodes said. "It was bad. I apologize a thousand times."

Well now, there you have it. Bush is a pussy.

This is actually a good law 27.Apr.2005 17:48

Why would you want to condone this kind of speech? I personally want to see less violence, not more.

Joking about killing anyone is not what most of us want to be about. All threats to the leader of a nation must be taken seriously and making it a crime cuts down on the investigating that must be done. I would be few cases are prosecuted.

except for the apology 27.Apr.2005 17:58

GOOD for Randi and GOOD for AirAmerica !

How can you not laugh or scream? 27.Apr.2005 18:21

So much hypocrisy, there are thousands if not millions of anti-Bush Americans who say the same thing about Bush and yet...he is still safe from our words. If Americans cannot even ventilate their anger at this monster or laugh at him then perhaps it will lead to action. What action do I allude to? How about a real populist revolution?

"except for" the apology, "PD" ??!? 27.Apr.2005 18:52

doesn't this prove Rhodes/A.A. to be the pointless trash they already are?

what "GOOD" are they to anyone at this point?

(if they were really interested in really smearing-nailing Bush Crime Mob Regime, they'd concentrate on any number of cocaine/arms dealing issues with hard evidence - never mind the even more blatantly obvious and recent electronic voting machine ownership, and John Kerry's own role in HAVA [Help America Vote Act] - not endless whining about "would you *look* what Bush did today, now DeLay just did that, now Scalia does the other thing" blah blah blah . . . "talk radio wars" is a pointless distraction/waste of time and money with corporate sponsorship)

I guess if anyone says anything thoseTIPS ears are listening aren't they!

I heard it when it was live 28.Apr.2005 03:04

actually after the "bit" she asked that they not arm the elderly people of Florida because she lives there. Randi had no clue what he bit was about at the time. Today she says she is willing to go to jail as long as others like Tom Delay who threatened judges, Novak and others went to jail too.

Well, think about it like this 28.Apr.2005 09:04

C. Heston

screwing up social security is very bad. If a liberal president decided to ban all guns ( similar drastic action), the rightwing NRA lobby would probably not just joke about shooting the president. The right wing gets away with a lot more than the left wing does. I don't think that joking about killing people is a great idea- unless the joke is really funny like giving Bush a giant pretzel to choke on. However, expressing appropriate rage about his sadistic policies is absolutely necessary.

Irony 28.Apr.2005 10:13

Seems strange that "joking about killing the president" is a crime, while actually killing tens of thousands of Iraqi babies is not. Funny world. Funny world.

Well, I think the Air America people have an airtight defense: He's no president. So we can say whatever we want to about him. And may he rot. In hell.

Jokes are OK if you are a Republican 28.Apr.2005 12:11

penn_ave, have you even listened to the clip? It is so clearly, obviously, farcical that there is no way anyone could listen to that and perceive a threat. It would be like saying the Woody Woodpecker cartoon is endangering coyotes because Wile E. Coyote gets an anvil dropped on his head. Give me a break.

Besides, when someone like Ann Coulter says, as she did, that she wondered whether it would be better to "to impeach or assassinate" Bill Clinton, the f-ing Secret Circus didn't get involved. And her threat was way more serious, way more credible and way more widespread than what was on Randi Rhodes' show.

This is all just another way the right wing jumps on anything that they perceive to be "out of line." It is designed to keep everyone quiet, lest they too be targeted by the SS or the CIA/FBI - whatever.

And I hope that you die 28.Apr.2005 13:58

Bob Dylan Lyrics Guy

If I recall correctly even playing this song or reading these lyrics in public will bring the SS to the investigate - from 1963 The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan.

Perhaps we need to gather a large group in a public place and see if we can set the world record for the most people reading the Master's of War lyrics at one time. Pioneer Courthouse Square Anyone?

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead
